<br /> request of Los Angeles County Fair Association for permission to

<br /> On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, the
<br /> resignation of Gilbert B. Martien, Auditor and Purchasing Agent,
<br /> effective July 18, 1949, was accepted with sincere regrets.

<br />On recommendation of the Chairman and on motion of Trustee Mandy,
<br />seconded by Reed and carried, Gilbert B. Martian was hired as
<br />Auditor and Purchasing Agent on a temporary basis until ex~
<br />can be held and qualified ~sucqessor appointed.

<br /> On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, the

<br /> Civil Service Board was instructed to hold an examination for the
<br /> position of Auditor and Purchasing Agent at the earliest possible
<br /> date.

<br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, request
<br />of Jan & Kay Interiors for two twenty-minute parking signs at ll0
<br />So. Broadway, was referred to committee of Trustee Cheney and Cit
<br />Engineer for recommendation and to report back.

<br /> Conznunication was read from Supt. of Recreation, on behalf of

<br /> the Santa Ana Council P.T.A. requesting use of Municipal Bowl on
<br />
<br /> Saturday, July 30, without payment of Usual rental fee. On
<br />
<br />motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, the City
<br />
<br />Attorney was instructed to furnish Council and Park Superint.

<br />with interpretation of Ordinance governing use of and bowl rental
<br />fees. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried,
<br />communication was received and filed.

<br />United Latin American Citizens for permission to hold a public

<br />dance at the American Legion Hall, July 20th, 1949, was granted.

<br />Communication was read from Rev. James Elmer of Our Lady of
<br />Guadalupe Church requesting permission to conduct public dances
<br />on July 31, August 7, 14, 16, 21, 26, 27 and 28th and to place a
<br />table or stand on 4th St. between Main and Sycamore Streets, on
<br />August 19th and 20th, to sell tickets on awards to be given away
<br />'dUring the Fiesta; also, to close Third St. between Grand and
<br />
