<br />Hugh J. Lowe presented a recommendation signed by a group of
<br />citizens suggesting that John W. Martin, Jr. be appointed to fill
<br />the unexpired term of office caused by resignation, effective
<br />August 31st, 1949, of R. Carson Smith, as Mayor and Councilman
<br />
<br />from the Second Ward. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by
<br />
<br />Chandler and carried, the recommendation of the committee was
<br />
<br />received, filed and taken under further consideration by the
<br />
<br />members of the Council when the vacancy exists and the Council
<br />
<br />expressed its appreciation to the committee for its efforts in
<br />

<br />Communication was read from Traffic Safety Commission requesting
<br />that Council contact League of Cities relative to sponso.ring a
<br />
<br />bill for uniform penalties for traffic violations. On motion of
<br />
<br />Trustee Chandler, seconded by Reed and carried, request was
<br />
<br />referred to Orange County League of Cities to sponsor such a bill

<br />
<br />Streets, was granted.
