<br />Resolution of the Board of Supervisors reference gas tax monies
<br />available to the Cities for City streets, was received and filed.
<br />On motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Martin and carried,
<br />resignation of J. Charles Cowan, as Chairman of the Citizens
<br />
<br />Cormutttee, was accepted with regrets.

<br />Communication was read from City Engineer advising that improveme~
<br />on Riverside Drive and North Olive Lane, within the boundaries of
<br />Tract No. 1324 have been satisfactorily completed, and on motion
<br />of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried, communication wa~
<br />received, filed and bond, in the amount of $11,000.O0, submitted
<br />by Victor Walker, ordered released.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from Joseph P. Smith requesting that a 20
<br />minute parking zone be established at the northwest corner of
<br />Broadway and West Walnut Streets. On motion of Trustee Reed,
<br />seconded by Martin and carried, request was referred to cormmittee
<br />of Trustee Cheney and City Engineer for recommendation and to
<br />report back.

<br />On motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Reed and carried,
<br />communication from Kiwanis Club of Santa Ana, reference article
<br />appearing in July 1949 issue of Kiwanis magazine, was received
<br />
<br />and filed.

<br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried, request
<br />of Comite Patriotico Mexlcano for permission to conduct a public
<br />
<br />dance Sept. ?th, in the K.P. Hall, was granted.

<br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried, request
<br />of League of United Latin American Citizens for permission to
<br />conduct a public dance August 31st, at the American Legion Hall,
<br />was granted.

<br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried, request
<br />of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, on behalf of Our Lady's Crusaders
<br />Youth Club, for permission to conduct a public dance Sept. 25th,
<br />at the American Legion Hall, was referred to the Chief of Police
<br />
<br />and Police Commissioner, for recommendation and to report back.

<br />The Chairman of the Board appointed John W. Martin, Jr. Police
<br />and Fire Commissioner and as a member of the Traffic Safety
<br />Commission, and on motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and
<br />carried, appointment was approved.

<br />On motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Martin and carried, the
<br />application of Alfred R. Stalnaker to drive taxicabs, was granted
<br />and permit ordered issued.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from Chief of Police requesting that
<br />enforcement of Parking Meter Ordinance No. 1147 be returned to
<br />the Police Department. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by
<br />Martin and carried, Trustee Martin, Chief of Police and City
<br />
