On motion Of T~ustee Reed, s'~conded by Mal~in and carried, communication from Allied Business Cotuncil recommending enforce- ment of Parking Meter Ordinance be under Jurisdiction of Police Department, was received, filed and previously appointed committee to be sent copies of such communication. A petition was read signed by sixty-three business persons requesting repeal of portion of Ordinance No. 12~0 that results in dual enforcement of Parking Meter Ordinance. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Martin and carried, petition was ordered received, filed and copies/sent to previously appointed committee An apDllcation was read from~Martha Diehm, Secy-Treas. General Amusement Company requesting permission to establish one merry- go-round and ticket booth at 2122 South Main St~¢et. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Martin and carried, property was ordered posted and hearing date set for protests am of Sept.' 19th, 1949. Request was read from Manager, Sears-Roebuck & Co. recommending that traffic signals be installed at Main and Berkeley Streets. On motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Martin and carried, City Engineer was instructed to write the State Highw~ Department recommendinE that traffic signals be installed at this intersect- ion. The Chief of Police reported that a gentlemen's agreement had been reached whereby at ?:30 P.M. the ice-cream vendor's would control the sound so that they could not be heard beyond the limi' of two houses, and that at 8:30 P.M. they would discontinue the sound entirely. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Martin and carried, communications were received, filed and writers advised of action taken. On motion of Trustee Ree~l, seconded by Martin and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission that a variance be granted to J. Elmer Preston to permit professional offices at 1427 Bush Street,' under certain conditions, was approved and variance granted. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Martin and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission that a variance be granted to Sidney B. and Elizabeth W. Hickox, to allow decoratiw columns, basic platforms, and eaves on two-story apartment build- ings to extend into the front yard a distance of four feet, in th~ immediate vicinity of 1601 North Flower Street, unde~ certain conditions, was approved and variance granted. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried, the variance applications of Henry John and Pauline M. ~eil and Elbert C. Missildine, w~re referred back to the Planning Commission for further study and consideration.
