On motion of Trustee Chandler, Lulu Minter was reappointed to Memorial Museum Board; term to ?? se~nded by Cheney and carried, serve as a member of the Bowers expire March 19th, 1954. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, Chairman was authorized to appoint a committee to prepare a Annual Report which is to be distributed to the public. Chairman appointed the Council, as a whole, as committee. A petition was Mead signed by thirty-seven members of lower rank of the Fire Dept.citing the fact that Chief Oarthe now has to relieve assistant and battalion .chiefs on their days off, adding that he should be free to direct the overall activities of the department at all times; also that the Chief's salary should be comparable to t~ose paid fire chiefs of cities of approximately the same size as Santa Ana. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, requests were denied. Roll Call Trustees Ayes Allen A. Mandy, Virgil H. Reed, R. Carson Smith. Trustees Noes Courtney R. Chandler Not Voting Trustees W.J.Cheney On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the opinion of the City Attorney reference to Council's authority to' reduce wages ~f Civil Service Employees, was received and filed. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the effective d~te of reduction in salaries of Parking Meter 0f.ficers shall be April l, 1949. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, the monthly reports for March of the Building, City Judge and Police Departments, were received and filed. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, the demands as audited by the Finance Conmmittee, were approved and Clerk authorized to draw warrants covering demands numbering 3~15 to 3729 inclusive. The report of the committee was read on the operation of serve yourself service stations dispensing gasoline and Trustee Mandy stated that an inspection of ten such stations had beeu made. Messrs. Ttday and Quick stated their reasons for favoring such filling stations and Messrs. Brockman and Dutton opposed the operation of this type of station. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, the report of the committee on serve yourself service stations was accepted and Ordinance not to be changed at this time as the Fire Chief has the authority to issue or deny permits for the operation of serve yourself stations. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Contmission that parking be eliminat on the south side of Tenth St. between Main and Bush Sts., in to provide two, full-width lanes for traffic, and, that the effect of the Jog on Bush St. at 10th St. be reduced, was t~bled for further study. On motion of. Trustee Reed, seconded by ~andy and carried, matter of abandonment Of alley bounded by 1st St., Cedar St., Evergreen St. and Walnut St. was tabled until next meeting.
