Mandy. <br />Absent: Trustees None <br /> <br />Each member of the City Council having received copies <br />of the Minutes of February 20th, 1950, further reading <br />of the Minutes was dispensed with and approved on motion <br />of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Martin and carried. <br /> # <br /> <br />In Re <br />Petitions <br />No. Flower St. <br /> <br />In Re <br />Variance <br />Y.W.C.A. <br />(Josephine Gline s) <br /> <br />In Re <br />Protests <br />Housewives Anti- <br />Smudge Committee <br /> <br />Petitions were read signed by 175 residents and property owners on <br />North Flower St. protesting removal of parkway in center of Flower <br />St. north of l?th Street. The recommendation of the appointed <br />committee was read advising that the recommendation of the Safety <br />Commission has merit, that the proposed freeway will ultimately <br />make No. Flower St. a dead-end street, the condXtion does not <br />warrantthe expense involved and it would be more advisable to <br />preserve the residential character of this street. On'motion of <br />Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the recommendation <br />of the committee was approved and petitions filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Martin and carried, the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved that a <br />variance be granted to the Y.W.C.A. of Banta Ana-Tustin, to permit <br />the proposed Y.W.C.A. clubhouse to extend into the yard along the <br />Sycamore Street frontage of the property to be occupied, but not <br />closer'than three feet to the west line of No. Sycamore Street, <br />and variance granted. <br /> <br />Petitions were read signed by 3038 residents and property owners iz <br />the City protesting use of smudge pots or any similar device withiz <br />the City limits and reques%ing adoption of an Ordinance to <br />immediately eliminate the damage to health and property. Krs. B. <br />O. Clark and Mrs. ~mmett Rogers, members of the Housewives Anti- <br />Smudge Committee, read prepared statements which said that people <br />have the right'to expect protection from those few within the City <br />who by their actions damage the property and injure the health of <br />others. Mrs. J.M.Mansfield requested that committee members be <br />permitted to work with the City Attorney in preparing an ordinance <br />prohibiting the use of smudge pots. The motion of Trustee 0handle <br />to permit members of the committee to work with the City Attorney <br />in preparing an Ordinance was lost for lack of a second. On moti <br /> <br /> <br />
