holes necessary for line and grade stakes. The Contractor shall preserve all stakes set for <br />the lines, grades or measurements of the work in their proper places until authorized to <br />remove them, by the City Engineer. Any expense incurred in replacing said stakes which <br />the Contractor may have failed to preserve shall be borne by the Contractor. <br /> <br />SECTION 6. INSPECTORS. <br /> The Contractor shall prosecute the work only in the presence of an engineer or inspector <br /> appointed by the Superintendent of Streets, and any work done in the absence of said <br /> engineer or inspector will be subject to rejection. The Contractor shall make written <br /> application for an inspector at least twenty-four (24) hours before his services are required <br /> on the work. The Contractor shall furnish the engineers and inspectors reasonable facilities <br /> for obtaining full information respecting the progress and manner of the work <br /> <br />SECTION 7. MATERIALS AND SAMPLES. <br /> All materials must be of specified quality and fully equal to samples, when samples are <br /> required. <br /> The Contractor, when requested, shall furnish and deliver free of charge to the Super- <br /> intendent of Streets, for testing, samples of all materials proposed to be used in the work, <br /> and such other samples as may be directed during the progress of the work. Said samples <br /> shall be delivered at a place within the City of Santa Aha, designated by the Superintendent <br /> of Streets and shall become the property of the City of Santa Aha. The Contractor shall <br /> also furnish, when directed, samples of finished cement work or pavement; cutting and <br /> repairing the said cement work or pavement in a neat and workmanlike manner, and free <br /> of charge. Competent labor shall be furnished free of charge at paving or other plants <br /> to screen material samples as directed by the Superintendent of Streets. The Contractor <br /> shall immediately remove all rejected materials permanently from the work <br />SECTION s. STORAGE OF MATERIALS. <br /> All mate_rials for use in thc work shall be stored by the Contractor in such a manner <br /> as to prevent damage from exposure to the elements, admixture of foreign materials, or <br /> from any other cause. <br /> <br />SECTION 9. EQIUPMENT. <br /> The Contractor must furnish adequate equipment to properly perform the work in a <br /> modern and workmanlike manner, according to these specifications. Such equipment must <br /> be in a good state of repair and maintained as such during the progress of the work No <br /> worn or obsolete equipment shall be used, and in no case shall the makers rating of capacity <br /> for any equipment be exceeded. <br /> <br />SECTION 10. MEASURING MATERIALS. <br /> All materials shall be measured by loose volume, unless otherwise specified or noted <br /> on the plans, and in such containers, that when struck level, the contents can be accurately <br /> determined. <br /> <br />SI~CTION 11. I~IRVES AND SCRI~RNS. <br /> The screens, one-fourth (~) inch and larger, herein specified, shall have round open- <br /> ings and all screens smaller than one-fourth (~) inch shall have square openings, as: <br /> One (1) inch and one-fourth (~) inch screens shall have round openings, one (1) inch <br /> and one-fourth (~) inch in diameters, respectively, and <br /> 10-mesh, 40-mesh and 200-mesh screens shall have, 10, 40 and 200 square meshes per <br /> linear inch, respectively, that is 100, 1600 and 40,000 square openings per square inch, re- <br /> spectively. <br /> Unless otherwise specified herein, the methods of using the screens shall be those <br /> prescribed by the United States Bureau of Standards, in Technologic Paper No. 42. <br /> <br /> <br />
