RESOLUTION 64-53 EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO <br />THE PACIFIC SOUTHWEST WATER PLAN, AS MODIFIED <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this City Council firmly believes that the most <br />serious problem facing the vast population in Southern California <br />is the continuing threat of water shortage and that its first duty <br />to the citizens of its City is to maintain a supply of potable <br />water for their use. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA: That they oppose the present Pacific Southwest <br />Water Plan offered and modified by Secretary of the Interior Udall <br />in that it includes in part the discontinuance of a portion of the <br />structures of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. <br />The City of Santa Ana was one of the original contracting cities in <br />the formation of said Metropolitan Water District and has paid taxes <br />continuously for the construction and operation of said District's <br />water works system, together with other taxpayers in the area has <br />constructed, improved and extended said system entirely from funds <br />supplied by the users thereof and should now have a vested right in <br />the continuation of said system and the guaranteed supplies from <br />the Colorado River. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That all portions of said Pacific <br />Southwest Water Plan other than those which contemplate the <br />surrendering of rights in the Colorado River or the abandonment of <br />any aqueduct lines or portions of Metropolitan's system should <br />proceed, but any studies or any action should preserve the present <br />water entitlement and the investment of the cities of Southern <br />California in the system they have build with their own funds. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br />Aha at its regular meeting held on the 20th day of April, 1964. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COD/qTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA AHA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, DORIS M.
