In Re Leave of absence Mayor Chandler' In Re Communication Dick Taylor Chief, Communications Service Communication was read from the Orange County Title Company returning Warrantc Nos. 126 and 39~ payable to the Orange County Title Company, in the sums of $33.05 and $270.00 respectively and advising that Gertrude Burns does not wish to convey the property located on South Main Street at this time. On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communication was referred to the Administrato: and City Attorney to determine, if possible, the rights of the City in the matter and committee instructed to submit written report to the Council at the next meeting. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Dahl and carried, the Administrator was instructed to contact the City Attorney for immediat~ action reference the condemnation proceedings for South Main Street widening and to furnish report on the status of the plans and spec- ificatkons being prepared by the Engineer, together with a report of the entire project, to be submitted at the next meeting. Communication was read from the City Attorney requesting authorization to file with the Public Utilities Commission a Dismiesal on behalf the City coupled with the request that the City be notified of the filing of an Advice Letter in the State seeking publication of a divided directory .for the County of Orange. On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Hunter and carried, the reques~ was approved and Attorney instructed to file the Dismissal on behalf of the City. . Communication was read from Z.B.West reference retainer fees to handle the case of People versus MarJorie Burns, such fees to be a retainer to cover preparation $100.00, fee of $100.00 for the first day and $75.00 per day for each. day of trial thereafter. On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, the requeet reference retainer fees in this specific case was granted and arrangements to be made for compensation for expert witnesses. Communication was read from Chief Building Inspector recommending that Chesley Johnson be appointed as a member of the Plumbing Examining Board due to ~he resignation of Robert Watson. On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the recommendation was approved and appointment authorized. . Communication was read from President, Santa Ana City Employees Association requesting that W.G.Secrest, N.D.McLean and C.A.McCullough be relieved from their duties for one and one-half days leaving at October 9th in order to attend the Sixth Annual Conference of the California League of City Employees Associations to be held at Oakland October 10th, llth and 12th, and on motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, the request was granted. # On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Dahl and carried, the request of Mayor Oourtney R. Chandler for permission to leave the State from October 10th to November 10th, was g~anted. # On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerom$ and carried, communicati¢ from Dick Taylor reference Civil Defense planning and cooperation received while, acting as Chief, Communications Service, Santa Aha
