Chandler. <br /> <br />This being the date set for the continued hearing on variance <br /> <br />application of Oliver E. Huseth to permit use of the living room in the <br />existing residence at 1323 West Edinger as a dry cleaning and tailoringi <br />agency, to be operated by Mrs. Donna Swank, the Clerk read communication <br /> <br />from the Planning Commission recommending denial of the variance. <br />Thomas B. Shedden, 1530 South Hesperian Street, representing a group <br />of property owners stated certain residents signed the petition obJect~ <br />lng to the Agency. Thomas McLaughlin, 1418 Hesperian and Arnold <br />Wheeler, stated their objections to the establishment of the business. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br /> <br />Attorney was instructed to prepare a Resolution granting the variance <br /> <br />with the following conditions: <br /> <br />(1) There is to be no dry cleaning equipment, no steam presses, and <br /> no steam boilers upon the property; <br />(2) There is to be only one sign which shall be unlighted and shall <br /> not exceed 12 square feet in area. <br />(3) That the yards and lawn areas around the residence shall be <br /> planted to lawn and landscaped to conf~rm to the surrounding <br /> neighborhood. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, <br /> <br />seconded by McBride an~ carried, the <br /> <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br /> <br />granted to Jack W. Smith to. construct two apartment buildings with six <br /> <br />units in each, with garages and launda~y rooms in rear, a t 619 North <br /> <br />Baker Street, subject to the conditions as imposed by the Planning. <br />Commission, and to the condition that the garage space is ample. <br /> <br />The City Manager was instructed to investigate the parking facilities <br /> <br />and furnish a written report outlining his findings. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br /> <br />granted to C.V.Taormina to permit expansion of the present salvage <br />yard operation to include the salvage and handling of aluminum, brass, <br /> <br />copper and other metals, erection of a building for the purchase and <br /> <br />sales.cf salvaged materials at 2323 West Fifth Street, subject to the <br /> <br />conditions as imposed by the Planning Commission, and to the condition <br /> <br />that the painting of signs on the fence be permitted only on the~West <br />Fifth Street side, not to exceed 12 square feet in area. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman McBride, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br /> <br />granted to Charles B. Linger to const~uet a 40' x 28' two-story build- <br />ing with two offices on the lower floor, two apartments on the second <br /> <br />floor and the front 105~ of the property to be used for parking at <br />317 East 17th Street, subject to the conditions as imposed by the <br /> <br />Planning Commission. <br /># <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br /> <br /> <br />
