Schlrmer to permit Use cf the existi~ Guonset hut <br /> which adjoins a one-story pumice stone garage for the making and <br /> molding of pressed wood products (ornamental lazy susans) under <br /> hydraulic pressure at 810 East Fifth <br /> <br /> The Vic~ Mayor announced that a minimum price of $24,000.00 would be <br /> acceptable to the City for the purchase of property described as Lots <br /> 3 and 5 of the Main Street Tract, located at the northeast corner of <br /> 20th and North Main Streets, subject to the following conditions: <br /> <br /> The City will pay regular seller's portion of escrow <br /> and title fees~ <br /> The City will not pay any broker's fee or share thereof; <br /> Following the initial offer,~addltiona~ offers will be <br /> entertained at the value of $500.00 ov.~r the highest <br /> previous bid. <br /> Successful bidder must file a cashier's check or instrument <br /> of equivalent surety to .the amount of 10% of the accepted <br /> bid, to be fi2ed with the Clerk of the Council by 5:00 P.M. <br /> May 20, 1953. <br /> <br /> Thomas W. Andrew, as broker for Dr. R.I.Brockbank, offered $24,000.00 <br /> for the property, and on motion .of Councilman Lateen, seconded by <br /> Jerome and carried, the bid was accepted. On motion of Councilman <br /> Jerome, seconded by Lateen and carried, proper official was authorized <br /> to enter into an escrow and to execute deed to the property. <br /> E.C.Misslldine, Chairman of the Industrial Committee, gave a brief <br /> resume of the. area recommende~ by the Planning Commission to be suit- <br /> <br /> able for M-1 Industrial Zone, being property bounded on the north by <br />~Delhi Road, on the east by South Main Street, on the south by the <br /> <br />extended center line of Talbert Road and on the west by Bristol Street <br />Ag~eeingwith the Commission's recommendation was Randolph Mart, Legal <br />Representative of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company and the P.E. <br />RallwayCompany, who stated that the Railroad Company had $400,000.00 <br />in escrow to purchase 95 acres of land south of Delhi Road if it were <br />zoned for industry. Thomas E. Reff®~ma~,Attorney, stated that the <br />City needs industry to provide a payroll for its citizens. Whelan <br />Leonard, a Los Angeles realtor, said~he was representing both the <br />prospective buyer and seller of the acreage sought by the Railroad <br />Company. Attorney R.C~Mize, representing four property owners and <br />himself, with approximately 400 acres, stated his clients were in <br />favor of the industrial zoning. The communications, opinions and <br />maps, submitted by Attorney Mize were ordered filed. William C. <br />Croddy stated he owned land west of the proposed industrial area and <br />is in favor of the industries. The Clerk read two protes~ petitions, <br />one containing 27 names objecting to industry on the west side of Main <br />Street, the other 88 names, presented by Mrs. Wayne Crowther, stating <br />that industry would create a hazard to the Washington School children. <br />J. Ogden Markel stated his reasons for opposing the seven favorable <br />features set forth in the study made by the Commission. E.A.Meredlth, <br /> <br /> 2130 Park Drive, was of the opinion that the industrial zone should be <br /> on the east side of Main Street. On motion of Councilman Jerome, <br /> seconded by Lateen and carried, the matter of Area N-A being designate~ <br /> as M-1 Industrial Zone, was taken under advisement fo~ further <br /> <br /> consideration. <br /> # <br /> <br /> <br />
