On motion of Councilman McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the bids were referred to the Director of Public Works for recommendation. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, .the Clerk was authorized to open bids for 1696 lineal feet of 18", Class 150 concrete cylinder pipe with special fittings, as follows: Bid of American Pipe and Construction Co.: Bond in the sum of $1300.00. 1696 lin. ft. 18" concrete cylinder pipe Class 150, price per lln. ft. $6.08 Price quoted is net and includes the applicable Cali~ornia State Sales Tax. Delivery within 45 days from date of award. Bid of United Concrete Pipe Corporation: 10% bond. 1696 lin. ft. 18" concrete cylinder pipe Class 150, for the lump sum of ti1,107.11. Price is net and includes 3% California State Sales Tax. Delivery can begin 45 days after receipt of order, and be completed at the rate of 600 lineal feet per day. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the bids were referred to the Director of Public Works for recommendation. . Communications were read from the Planning Commission recommending that a variance be granted Irvin R. Dawson etux to permit construct- ion of a duplex on the north 52 feet of property at 1134 South Flower Street, and from Assistant Director of Public Works stating that the construction of standard concrete sidewalk and approach are needed in order to bring it up to present city standards. On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance granted, subJ eot to the construction of standard concrete sidewalk and approach and that applicant post a $200.00 bond to guarantee the perfoz~nance of the work. Communications were read from the Planning Commission recommending that a variance be g~anted Woodrow W. Tucker to permit the use of property located at 501 East Anahurst Place, excepting the east 55 feet, as a convalescent nursinE home for under six persons, subject to th~ conditions that the type of guests be limited to ambulatory and that no signs be displayed, and from the Assistant Director of Public Works stating that Anahumst Place and Rousselle Street should be paved out to existing paving in order to bring it up to present city standards. On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by McB~'ide and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance gu'anted subject to conditions as imposed by the Commission and further that the requested improvements have been completed. # It was moved by Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, to reconsider the matter of the Irvin R.
