Costello ~o permit the use of <br /> <br />property at the southeast corner of Washington Avenue and Flower Street, <br />820 West Washington Avenue, for construction of a one-story professional <br />office building, with off-street parking. Attorney Ridley C. Smith <br />gave various reasons why the variance should be denied as recommended <br /> <br />by the Planning Commission. The applicant stated the house, which <br />more than fifty years old, would be removed, and the erection of the <br /> <br />In Re <br />'Vaa'iance <br />Santa Ana <br />Lumber <br /> <br />professional office building, with off-street parking would be a <br />distinct asset to the neighborhood. On motion of Councilman Jerome, <br />seconded by Dahl and ca~ried, the recommendation of the Planning <br />Commission was approved and variance denied. <br /> <br />Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending <br />granting of variance to permit the Santa Ana Lumber Company to use the <br />next lot west of 1709 W. 3rd Street, for expansion of their lumber <br /> <br />yard and lumber business facilities, adjoining this property on the <br />west, which involves the s~ocking and storage of lumb~r, and eventuall~ <br />the construction of additional storage sheds or other building facilities <br />used in connection with the business, with a 3~ yard all around. <br /> <br />Attorney Lester Van Tatenhove, representing the two property owners <br />the north of this lot, stated reasons why the variance should be <br /> <br />denied and objected to the side yard requirements being waived and <br />requested that no machinery be housed on this lot and no storing of <br />lumber be permitted. James Maynard, a representative of the Santa Aha <br />Lumber Company requested permission to have the lumber stored, as re- <br />quested in the variance, and have the storage sheds built on <br /> <br />the southerly part of the lot.
