CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />DATA PROCESSING TECHNICIAN <br /> <br />pEFINITION <br /> <br />Under close supervision, performs simple programming and coding and operates com- <br />puter and peripheral equipment. <br /> <br />~XAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Assists in the review and analysis of detailed systems specifications and the pre- <br />paration of program instructions; assists in the preparation of block diagram and <br />machine logic flow charts; assists in preparing test data and testing and debugging <br />programs; under close supervision operates an electronic data processing computer <br />and peripheral equipment including magnetic tape drives, magnetic disk units~ high <br />speed card reader, punch and high-speed drum printer; sets up equipment in accord- <br />ance with program and operating instructions; processes various production runs <br />according to a scheduled sequence; performs related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />This is a trainee class which includes assignments in various areas of operation. <br />Positions in this class perform work similar to the higher level classes of Computer <br />Operator and Programmer, howeve~ assignments are reviewed more frequently and <br />incumbents receive much closer supervision. Work of increasing difficulty and <br />complexity is assigned based upon experience required and familiarity with the <br />work. Incumbents are expected to develop proficiency and knowledge necessary to <br />advance to the higher level classes of Computer Op~ ator or Progran~ner. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Graduation from high school and successful completion of formal training in electronic <br />data processing including courses in programming and computer operation or any <br />equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following - <br />knowledge, abilities and skills: <br /> <br />Some knowledge of: the standard methods and practices involved in operating electron~ <br />data processin~ equipment including computers and peripheral devices; block diagramm- <br />ing, flow charting and procedural report presentation; disk operating systems and <br />magnetic tape applications. Ability to: put into action the above knowledge and <br />skills with minor orientation. <br /> <br /> <br />
