CITY OF SAETA ANA <br /> <br />SENIOR EQUIPMENT MECHANIC <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under general supervision, performs skilled and lead work in the repair, over- <br />haul and maintenance of a variety of automot£ve, heavy-duty construction and <br />other mechanized equipment on an.assigned shift. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Assigns, supervises, inspects and participates in the work of a small crew of <br />equipment mechanics and other personnel on an assigned shift in maintaining, <br />repairing, overhauling and rebuilding a variety of automotive and mechanical <br />equipment; transmits and explains supervisor's instructions and work specifica- <br />tions to assigned workers; motivates workers to meet production standards and <br />helps workers or supervisor to solve work problems; instructs and trains sub- <br />ordinates in improved work techniques, the ese of tools and testing equipment, <br />and safety measures; observes and enforces safety regulations; performs the <br />more difficult or complex diagnostic and repair work; assists in requisitioning <br />supplies and parts; performs related duties as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />While an employee of this class takes the lead and gives directions to equipment <br />mechanics and other assigned workers, supervisory functions are secondary to the <br />skilled mechanical repair duties he performs. <br /> <br />MINIMUM BASIC QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Graduation from high school and three years' full-time experience as a journeyman <br />equipmer~mechanic or any equivalent combination of training and experience which <br />provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: <br /> <br />Thorough knowledge of: the tools, equipment and procedures used in the overhaul, <br />repair and adjustment of a wide variety of light and heavy equipment, including <br />gasoline and diesel-powered engines; fuel, ignition, electrical and cooling systems. <br />Knowledge of: the mechanical and hydraulic principles essential to the maintenance <br />and repair of specialized apparatus, pumps and equipment, their use, operation and <br />standards of performance. Skill in the use of shop tools. Ability to: diagnose <br />mechanical troubles, to disassemble, check and reassemble automotive components and <br />to test the operation of repaired equipment; supervise and instruct subordinates in <br />the safe and proper use of tools and related shop equipment. <br /> <br />Special Requirements: Possession of a valid California Driver'S License. Possession <br />of a complete set of basic mechanic hand tools. Possession of a valid California <br />Class "A" Installers and Adjusters License. <br /> <br /> <br />
