CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />EQUIPMENT MECHANIC I <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under supervision, performs semi-skilled and limited skilled work in assisting <br />journeyman level mechanics in the repair and maintenance of more complex com- <br />ponents of heavy automotive equipment and personally repairs and maintains small <br />motorized equipment. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Inspects motorcycles, chain saws, lawnmowers and similar small motorized equipment <br />to determine extent of necessary repair; repairs and adjusts internal combustion <br />engines, transmission, differentials, mechanical linkage, ignitions, electrical, <br />fuel and cooling systems; makes and installs rotor and gutter brooms; adjusts brakes; <br />answers road calls, making minor adjustments or repairs, or towing disabled vehicles <br />to repair shop; assists journeyman level mechanics in disassembling or assembling <br />motors and accessory parts or in other major repair work; observes safety regula- <br />tions; as experience is gained, works with increasing independence on less complex <br />or familiar assignments; performs related duties'as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />An employee in this class performs limited skilled mechanical work on small motor- <br />ized equipment and assists journeyman equipment mechanics with major repair work <br />on large, more complex equipment. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Completion of tenth grade and one year of experience in the repair and maintenance <br />of light automotive and small motorized mechanical equipment or any combination of <br />training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: <br /> <br />Knowledge of: the assembly, adjustment, maintenance and overhaul of a wide variety <br />of small motorized mechanical equipment; machine and hand tools used in mechanical <br />repair, work. Skill in: use of machine and hand tools involved in servicing and <br />repairing mechanical equipment; oiling, greasing and other servicing activities on <br />mechanical equipment. Ability to: perform heavy physical work; follow oral and <br />written instructions and maintain effective working relationships with fellow <br />employees. <br /> <br />Special Requirements: Possession of a valid California Driver's License. Possession <br />of a set of mechanic hand tools. Must possess a valid California Class "A" Installers <br />and Adjusters License at the end of the probation period. <br /> <br /> <br />
