Shinn, owner of the Grand Motel, 515 North Grand Avenue, stating that <br />his guests complained about the noisy traffic, and suggesting an anti-noise <br />as in effect in San Jose, was received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Dahl and carried, the communication <br />from John O. Haley reference the widening of the street on West 17th Street from <br />Flower Street west to the City limits to a width of 80 feet from curb to curb aud <br />suggesting that a width of 7~ feet from curb to curb may be sufficient to handle the <br />traffic, was received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilm~n Heinly, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communication <br />from The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, submitting certified <br />copy of Resolution No. 4857 levying a tax for the fiscal year 1~56-1957 upon taxable <br />property taxable by said District, including taxable property lying within the City <br />of Santa Ana,We~e received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Heialy, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication <br />from The ~tropolitan Water District of Southern California, submitting copy of a <br />tabulation listing the member-areas of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern <br />California and showing their respective assessed valuations, percentage <br />in the District and the number of votes to which each is entit~led, as of August ~Oth <br />1956, were received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hei~-ly, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication <br />from ~e Metropolitan Water District of Southern California transmitting financial <br />statements as of June ~Oth, 1~56, and a statement of the amount of water stored by <br />the District and used by member municipalities, were received and filed. <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Dahl, seconded by Markel and carried, that the Clerk <br />forward a letter to The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California <br />the District for the reduction made in taxes for the fiscal year 1956-1957. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Heinly and carried, the request of <br />Frank Moreno, on behalf of "Accion", for permission to conduct a public dance at <br />the American Legion Hall, Saturday, September 15th, 1956, from ~:00 P.M. to l:00 A.R <br />was granted, subject to the approval of the Chief of Police. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the bond of Ernest <br />Giese filed for the improvements in Tract No. 2025, in the sum of $66,000.00, was <br />ordered released and improvements accepted as completed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication <br />from E. Rebb, 1~27 E. First Street, protesting the attitude of an employee in the <br />Department of P~blic Works Office who served him when he requested consideration <br />on a weed aSsessment bill in the amount of $43.20, was received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Dahl; seconded by Heinly and carried, the Purchasing Agent <br />was authorized to advertise for bids for the following: <br /> <br /> Two four door sedans, per Specification 621-~0, <br /> Automobiles and trucks, per Specification 6~l-ll, consisting of the following: <br /> Fi~e business coupes, three 1/~ ton pickup trucks, two 3/4 ton truck chassis <br /> and cab, one 1-ton truck chassis and cab, one 2-ton truck chassis and cab; <br /> One power lawn mower with sulky, per Specification 652-~, and <br /> Exterior painting of Conmmmity Center Building, per Specification 381; <br />bids to be opened September 17th, 1~56. <br /> <br />Communication was read from the Y.W.C.A. requesting permission to hang a banner over <br />the intersection of Fc~rth and Main Streets from September 28th and including <br /> <br />7th, 1956. Attorney Walter Steiner, on behalf of the Association, requested <br />permission to hang the banner across Broadway at the Y.W.C.A. On motion of Council. <br /> <br /> <br />
