<br /> Communication was read from the Planning Cc~mission recommending approval of variance
<br /> application #8~2 of Case-Swayne Co., Inc., to permit construction of an office building,
<br /> 35' x 60' on property situated at 1661 East Palm.Avenue. R. M. Phillips and other prope:
<br /> ty owners in the vicinity stated that they had not seen any signs posted on the variance
<br /> and protested against further construction by the applicants. On motion of Councilman
<br /> Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, actiOn was continued until the meeting of Decem-
<br /> ber 17, 1956.

<br /> On motion of .Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, the recommendation of the
<br /> Planning Ccmmission was approved and the variance application of Wright, Ltd., denied for
<br /> permission to construct three duplexes, with a 5 foot decrease in front yard requirements
<br /> on triangular-shaped parcel of property situated on the west side of Spurgeon Street at
<br /> the Freeway.
<br />
<br /> Communication was read from the Planning Co~ission again recommending the denial of
<br /> variance application of John and Hazel Wightman to permit the establishment and operatiol
<br /> of a beauty salon in residence at 618 South B~oadway, and recommending that South B~oad-
<br /> way south of Bishop Street to Edinger Street remain as R-l, R-2 and R-3 Districts as
<br /> provided by the Zoning Ordinance. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Taylor ant
<br /> carried, the recommendation of the Planning Conmission was approved and the variance
<br />
<br /> application of John and Hazel Wightman denied.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Jerome and carried, the amendment initiated
<br /> by the Planning Commission to reclassi~ property on the north side of Walnut Street fro~
<br /> Maple Avenue to Cedar Street from the R-3 to the P-PK District, was referred back to the
<br />
<br /> Commission to correct the procedure and legal description in Resolution No. 1059.
<br /> .
<br /> On motion of Councilmau Heinly, seconded by Taylor and carried, action was continued to
<br /> December l?, 1956, on the request of the Northwest Santa Ana Homeowners Assn. Inc. for
<br />
<br /> traffic signs and signals.

<br /> It was moved by Councilman Heinly, seconded by Taylor and carried, that the variance
<br /> application #8~1 of Industrial Enterprises, Inc., be reconsidered.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Taylor and carried, the recommendation of th~
<br /> Planning Ccmmissionwas approved and the variance application of Industrial Enterprises,
<br /> Inco, to permitdeletion of rear yard requirements on property situated on the west side
<br />
<br /> of Oak Street from Dyer Road south to the City Limits,(Lots i to ? inclusive, Tract 29~8
<br /> was
<br />_/granted on condition that the plans and specifications on buildings erected thereon, are
<br />
<br /> approved by the Fire Department.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Taylor and carried, Preliminary Map of J.V.
<br /> Sarinana on property situated on the west side of English Street, beginning at a point
<br /> 87.~7' south of the center line of Eighth Street, consisting of four lots each 5~' wide
<br />
<br /> and llO' deep, was approved subject to the conditions of the Department of Public Works.

<br /> The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Ordinance, on motion of Council-
<br /> man ~arkel, seconded by Jerome and carried, the following Ordinance entitled:

<br /> "Ordinance No. NS-2~7 amending Article IX of the Santa Aha Municipal Code
<br /> creating changes in district boundaries, and ~,~nding Sheets No. 33 and 3~
<br /> of 'the Districting Nap to show the reclassification"
<br />
<br /> of property in the area from Walnut Street to Bishop Street, and from Shelton Street to
<br /> the rear of lots facing Flower Street, excluding R-3 property on Bishop Street, from
<br /> the R-1 to R-2 District, reference Planning Commission initiated amendment, was con-
<br /> sidered and passed by the following vote:
