<br /> On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, the application of the
<br /> Orange County Council of Camp Fire Girls for permission to conduct its annual peanut
<br /> from January 18 to February 3, 1957, was granted.

<br /> Metropolitan Water District enclosing a tabulation listing the member-areas of the Dis-
<br /> trict and showing their respective assessed valuations, percentage participation and the

<br /> number of votes to which each is entitled, as of November, 27, 1956, was received and

<br /> On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, the cash bond of Richard
<br /> Murison in the amount of $150.O0, filed for the sidewalk improvements within the bounda-
<br /> ries of Record of Survey at 1~25 Grace Street, was ordered released and the improvements
<br /> accepted as completed.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Jerome and carried, t~ request of the Lamp
<br /> Lighters Club Y.W.C.A. for a permit to hold a benefit dance for the Muscular Dystrophy
<br /> Foundation on December 21, 1956 at the American Legion Hall from 9 P.M. to i A.M., was

<br /> On motion of Councilm~u Markel, seconded by Taylor and carried, the plans and specifica-

<br /> tions for the construction of rest ~ooms at Santiago Park extension, were approved.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Taylor and carried, the Purchasing Agent was
<br /> authorized to advertise for bids for the furnishing of gate valves, cast iron pipe,
<br /> meters and the construction of rest rooms at Santiago Park extension; bids to be opened
<br /> December 17, 1956.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Jerome and carried, the audit report of
<br /> Evans and Company for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1956, was received, filed and sub-
<br /> mitted to the Council as a co~ittee of the whole.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, the minutes dated Novem-
<br /> ber 28, 1956 of the Personnel Board, were received and filed.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Taylor and carried, the applications of Fay
<br /> Rose, Lloyd W. Neal, Frederick G. Goring Jr., Richard A. Bowen, Ernest D. Somards,

<br /> Frank A. Brewer, Donald F. Reimer, William R. Steele, Bernard P. Phillips, Helen Shaw
<br /> and Donald A. Wilbur, to drive taxicabs, were granted.

<br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Taylor a~d carried, the notification of the
<br />Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control of beverage application of Albert C. Gutierrez,
<br />1432 W. Fourth Street, was received and filed.
<br />
<br />Communication of the Chamber of Commerce was read recon~ending that the City Ordinance
<br />banning dances in restaurants be reviewed by the City Council and if present circumstan-
<br />ces and best public interest warrants such action the Ordinance be modified. On motion
<br />
<br />of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication was filed and
<br /> the
<br />submitted to the Council as a committee of/whole and the Manager and Attorney instructed
<br />
<br />to acquire standard Ordinances from other cities and report to the Council.
<br />Communication was read from the Chamber of Commerce recommending that the widening of
<br />North Main Street from 7th Street to the bridge be expedited, that a rush hour parking
<br />ban be established on 1st Street between Main and Birch Streets and that a three-phase
<br />signal be installed at th~ intersection of 17th S~reet and Main Street. On motion of
<br />Councilman Jerome, seconded by Markel and ~arried, ~he recommendations were referred t o
<br />the Manager and Traffic Engineer for study and recommendation.
<br />
<br />Communication of the Chamber of Commerce was read, requesting the Council to give con-
<br />sideration towards filling vacancies on City Commissions and if the City is redistricted,
<br />in accordance with the Charter, that councilmanic representation be given to the westerly
<br />area or any other area that is annexed to the City. On motion of Councilman Heinly,
