<br /> carried~ the petitions were referred to the Clerk to contract for the checking of
<br /> the percentage of the area represented by the petitions.

<br /> Communication was read from the Santa Aua Library Board of Trustees advising of
<br /> the appointment of certain members to the Library Building Plans Committee and
<br /> recommending that the Council make necessary arrangements for Francis Keally,
<br /> Consulting Architect, to hold a consultation with the Library Board, the Building
<br /> Plans Committee and Harold Gimeno, Archite~t, on plans for the new Library Building,
<br /> On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication
<br /> was received and filed.
<br />
<br /> It was moved by Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, that arrangements
<br /> be made to have Francis Keally, Consulting Architect, hold a consultation with the
<br /> Library Board, the Building Plans C~,m~ttee and Harold Gtmeno, Architect, on plans
<br /> for the new Library Building, and -1] transportation costs to be paid by the City.
<br />
<br /> It was moved by Councilman Heinly, seconded by Taylor and carried, that the maturity
<br /> date of the bonds for the construction of the new Library Building be established
<br /> for a twenty-y~ar period, in eq, m~ installments or as nearly equal as practicable.
<br /> On motion of Collncl~msn Heinly, seconded by Taylor and carried, the request of
<br />
<br />Santa Aha Uptown Lions Club was granted to solicit, fr~m house to house, the sa~e
<br />of light bulbs, for the purpose of raising money which will be given to the
<br />
<br />H%mgarian Refugees' Fund, through Lions International; the campaign to be completed
<br />before February 28th, 1957.
<br />
<br />Co~...unication was read from the Board of Education requesting that the Council
<br />further reconsider the possibility of placing a crossing ~a~d at the intersection
<br />of ~emory Lane and North Flower Street, for the safety of the children attending the
<br />Santiago School, and on motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried,
<br />the communication was received and filed.

<br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the request of the
<br />Orange County Society for Crippled Children and Adults, Inc., was granted to sell
<br />paper lapel Easter lilies on the streets, April 12th and 13th, 1957.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Heialy, seconded by Jerome and carried, the resignation of
<br />Nat H. Neff, as a member of the Planning Commission, effective January 31st, 1957,
<br />was accepted with regret aud the Clerk instructed to address a letter of appreciation
<br />to Mr. Neff for his long, faithful and unfailing service on the Con~nission and for
<br />the City of Santa Ann.

<br />On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Jerome and carried, the c~mmm!cation

<br />from Charles Linger suggesting that a protest be submitted to the State of California
<br /> to Santa Ana
<br />for a proper turnoff and sigr~_/at the Santa Ama Freeway at the Harbor Boulev~.-~l

<br />intersection, was received and filed.

<br />On motion of Councilman Reinly, seconded by Mark~l und carried, the application of
<br />the Metropolitan Coach Lines before the Public Utilities Cmmnission for authority
<br />to operate a passenger stage service between Santa Ann, Riverside, San Bernardino
<br />and the Santa Anita Race Track at Arcadia, was received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion of CounciLman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the Purchasing
<br />Agent was authorized to advertise for bids for furnishing of lighting systems in the
<br />picnic and playground area, and in the baseball field area of the Fairview and
<br />Center Street property; bids to be opened February 4th, 1957.
