Britton <br /> <br />Vehicle Parking <br />District No. 1 <br /> <br />Re~que st <br />United States Plywood <br />Corporation <br /> <br />Traffic control at <br />North Bristol and <br />Memory Lane <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, the Purchasing Agen <br />was authorized to advertise for bids for the furnishing of lighting systems for two <br />baseball fields in the City property known as Artesia Park, per Specification No. <br /> <br />691-5; bids to be opened April 15~ 1957. <br /> <br />On motion of Counc~ma~ Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, the claim of Walter <br /> <br />W. Cole for alleged injuries sustained due to a fall on the defective sidewalk in <br /> <br />the 1000 block on Sixth Street, in the snm of $25,805.00, was referred to the <br /> <br />Attorney and Insurance Carrier. <br /> <br />On motion of Cotmcilman Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, the applications o~ <br /> <br />Charles A. Nelson, Hazel J. Schwulst and Louis E. Walker, to drive taxicabs, were <br /> <br />approved and permits granted. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, the notifications <br />of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control of beverage applications of Frans <br />R. Hanson and James RI. McVay, 216 West Third Street, Ben C.,Eddie C.,Pascual C. <br /> <br />and Robert G. Ntmoz, 1324 West First Street and Francisco P. and Petra B. Jimenez, <br /> <br />404 West Fourth Street, were received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, the application of <br /> <br />D.W.Boyles and J.R.Britton, before the Public Utilities Commission, to operate <br />limousine service as a highway co~on carrier of passengers, baggage, express, <br />newspapers and mail between Santa Aha, Anaheim and Los Angeles (International) <br />Airport, Zuglewood, w~s received and filed. It was moved by Councilman Jerome, <br /> <br />seconded by Markel and carried, that a letter be directed to Messrs. Boyles and <br />Britton advising that it will be necessary to provide off-street parking for the <br /> <br />coaches and that in the near future no parking will be permitted on Main Street at <br /> <br />the location indicated as a lay-over for the coaches. <br /> <br />Coem~nication was read frc~ the Department of Public Works submitting a new assess <br />merit spread for the Vehicle Parking District No. l, and advising that the differen <br />Churches are now assessed at one-third of the original assessment and all propertI <br />assessments have been checked to determine that they fall under the allowable 35~ <br /> <br />of assessed value of the land. On motion of Councilman Heialy, seconded by Markel <br /> <br /> to b~ <br />and carried, the hearing was continued to April l, 1957 and the assessees_/notified <br /> <br />by postcard of the continued hearing, any additional pretests to be recorded at <br />that time. <br /> <br />The Nanager orally reported on the request of United States Plywood Corporation <br />for permission to use plywood instead of metal for signs on the top of their <br />building at ll2k East 17th Street, and suggested an amendment to the Sign 0rdinan, <br />which would permit the use of bonded plywood for roof signs or sky signs in Fire <br />Zone No. 3. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, the <br />Attorney was instructed to prepare an amendment to the Sign Ordinance to conform <br />to the suggested recommendations. <br /> <br />The Manager orally reported that immediate action should be taken to install <br />traffic signals or other safety measures at the intersection of North Bristol <br />Street and ~emory Lane. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heialy and <br />carried, a letter was ordered directed to the State of California, Division of <br />Highways, requesting that immediate action be taken for traffic signal control, or <br />whatever facilities are available, to insure safety at said intersection. <br /> <br /> <br />
