No. 57-128 <br /> <br /> Bids <br />, Fire Station <br />!-Building <br /> <br />annexation; Paul Dunn, 12972 East Occidental Street, stated he was in favor of the <br /> <br />annexation procedure. On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Gould and carried, <br />the hearing was continued until June 17, 1957. <br /> <br />This being the date set for hearing protests on annexation to the City of certain <br /> <br />inhabited territory designated "North of Smeltzer Annexation", the Clerk stated <br /> <br />that petitions and letters containing approximately 800 signatures protesting the <br /> <br />annexation were received. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Markel and <br /> <br />carried, the petitions and letters were received, filed and referred to the Clerk <br /> <br />to check the authenticity of the signatures according to the statute and to the <br />Attorney to be checked as to the legality of the protests. Henry Kirker, lllll <br />East 16th Street, Garden Grove, stated he represented people living on the south <br /> <br />side of 17th and Verano and east of there, and protested the proposed annexation <br /> <br />and stated they would prefer to be annexed to Garden Grove. J.T. Fortner, 1214 <br />South Broadway, said he owned property located on Jackson Street and requested <br />information as to what would be gained by annexing to Santa Ana. On motion of <br /> <br />Councilman Gould, seconded by Hall and carried, the hearing was continued until <br /> <br />June 17, 1957. <br /> <br />This being the date set for hearing protests on the application of the Southern <br /> <br />Paci£ic Company for a permit to maintain and operate a sp~r or side tracks across <br /> <br />Third and Fourth Streets, west of Breeden Street; no protests were received. The ~ <br /> <br />Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution, on motion of ' <br /> <br />Councilman Markel, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the following Resolution entitle~: <br /> <br />"Resolution No. 57-~ granting a permit to maintain and operate <br /> a spur or side track across Third and Fourth Streets, west of <br /> Breeden Street" <br /> <br />was considered and passed by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes, Councilmen Royal E. Hubbard, Stanley C. Gould, Jr., A. A. Hall, <br /> J. Ogden Markel, Dale H. Heinly <br />Noe s, Councilmen None <br />Absent, Councilmen None <br /> <br />This being the date set for hearing protests on the abatement of weeds, J.W. Julien, <br />928 Cypress Avenue, requested an extension of time on the cleaning of weeds on his <br /> <br />property located on the southeast corner of Wilshire and Shelton Streets, on account <br /> <br />of the rains. Ralph Dale, 12332 Enramada Road, Santa Ana, objected to the weed <br /> <br />bill he received last year and requested a refund; he was advised to contact the <br /> <br />City Attorney in regard to the matter. The Council having unanimously waived the <br /> <br />reading of the Resolution, it was moved by Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and! <br /> <br />carried, that the Resolution entitled: <br /> <br />"Resolution No. 57-128 ordering the Street Superintendent to <br />abate the public nuisance heretofore declared by the City <br />Council of the City of Santa Ana, to-wit: Weeds which bear <br />seeds of a wingy or downy nature and attain such a large growth <br />as to become a fire menace when dry and which are noxious and <br />dangerous, growing upon certain streets, sidewalks and private <br />property in the City of Santa Aha, by having the weeds referred <br />to removed" <br /> <br />be amended by inserting in line four the words "after June 20, 1957" and following <br /> <br />the words "public nuisance". The Resolution was considered and passed by the fol- <br /> <br />lowing vote: <br /> <br />Ayes, Councilmen Royal E. Hubbard, Stanley C. Gould, Jr., A. A. Hall, <br /> J. Ogden Markel, Dale H. Heinly <br />Noes, Councilmen None <br />Absent, Councilmen None <br /> <br />This being the date set for the opening of bids for the sale of the Fire Station <br /> <br />Building, 1322 North Sycamore Street, the Clerk stated no bids had been received. <br /> <br />The Manager recommended that the Council retain the minimum price of $25,000.00, as <br /> <br /> <br />
