<br />On motion of Councilrm~n Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried~ Mayor Heinly was
<br />authorized to execute Cost Service Contract with the California State Personnel
<br />Board, for examining services during the fiscal y~ar ending June 30, 1958.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication
<br />from the State of California, I~partment of Public Works, advising ~hat the total
<br />per capita allocation of $3.08 represents an increase of 1.65~ over the $3.03 per
<br />capita allocation for the previous fiscal year, for the gas tax apportionments for
<br />expenditure on City Streets, and that the 1956-57 fiscal year total allocation was
<br />$198,077.27, was received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilm~n Markel, seconded by Gould and carried, the communication
<br />from the City of Orange was received and filed advising of proposed annexation No.
<br />
<br />90 of territory located on the extreme north of the City Limits of the City of
<br />Orange.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the written recom-
<br />~ndation of the City Manager, dated May 3, 1957, setting forth salary step increases
<br />for ten employees, effective May l, 1957, was received, filed and approved.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the communication
<br />from Chester Wafford protesting the proposed plan to ease the enforcement of traffic
<br />regulations in the City, w~s received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the protest of
<br />Raisin Markets, Inc., was received and filed reference the proposed reclassification
<br />of property located at the southwest corner of Bristol Street and Delhi Road, con-
<br />sisting of approximately 165 acres, from Agricultural to Light Manufacturing
<br />District.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication
<br />frc~ the Board of Recreation and Parks was received and filed, conveying a special
<br />commendation for Donald Hayden for his work as a member of the Recreation Commission
<br />and the Board of Recreation and Parks.
<br />
<br />The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution, on motion of
<br />Councilman Hall, seconded by Markel and carried, the following Resolution entitled:

<br /> "Resolution No. 57o139 commending Mr. Donald Eayden for his
<br /> public service as a member of the Recreation Com~ssion"
<br />
<br />was considered and passed by the following vote:

<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the request of Santa
<br />Aha Young Men's Christi~n Association, for permission to solicit funds and to sell
<br />"Y" candy, during the w~ek of June 1st, 1957, was granted.

<br />Cormmunication was read from the Chamber of Conm/eree submitting a report on the annex-
<br />ation expenditures and requesting additional funds. On motion of Councilman Gould,
<br />seconded by Markel and carried, the report was received, filed and authorization
<br />granted to modify the existing contract with the Chamber of Commerce, in the
<br />
<br />of $~5oo.oo.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councihu~n Markel, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the plans and
<br />specifications were approved and the Department of Public Works authorized te
<br />advertise for bids for the black-topping of basket-ball courts at Monte Vista Park;
<br />bids to be opened June 3, 1957.
