<br />Communication was read from the Planning Co~nission recommending denial of variance
<br />application of Ira W. and Helen M. Shives to permit the construction of a duplex on
<br />property at 2148 South Broadway. The applicant spoke in favor of the variance.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the recommendation
<br />
<br />of the Plauning Commission was approved and the variance denied.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from G. J. Nardulli requesting postponement of the petition
<br />
<br />t;o vacate an alley off of North Valencia Street, north of 17th Street,until June
<br />
<br />17th, and on motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Hall and carried, the communi,
<br />cation was received and filed. It ~as moved by Councilman M~rkel, seconded by :
<br />Hubbard and carried, that action on the matter be postponed until June 17th.
<br />Co~unication was read from the P18nning Commission recommending approval of draft
<br />of proposed amendment to the Municipal Code, Article IX, Plauning and Zoning, by the~
<br />addition thereto, of a new district to be know~ as the "General Agricultural Distrie~'',
<br />and on motion of Councilm-n Markel, seconded by Hubbard and carried, action on the ~
<br />matter was postponed antil the next regular meeting for further study.

<br />It was moved by Counci!~nu Gould, seconded by Markel and carried, that the policy
<br />
<br />of the former Council be reaffirmed to grant zoning to newly annexed areas in those
<br />areas to the west and east of the City which will be similar to the zoning in effec~
<br />on such property prior to annexation. ~
<br />Communication was read from the Planning Commission in regard to re-survey of the
<br />area on both sides of South Sycamore Street, between Co~m~ercial Street and Anahurst
<br />Place, for a possible rezoning to P-PK District and approving the recommendation of
<br />the Planning Director that the present zoning of this area, i.e., R-2- two-family
<br />residential - remain as it is, in order to protect the character of the neighborhood
<br />and that each case be considered on its individual merits. On motion of Couneilmau~
<br />Markel, seconded By FAll and carried, the recommendations were approved.

<br />On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the communication
<br />frc~ the Planning Commission recommending approval of proposal to annex property
<br />consisting of 71.6 acres, lying along the easterly side of Harbor Boulevard, on bothl
<br />sides of Talbert Avenue, to be known as "Segerstrom Annex No. 3", was received and
<br />filed.

<br />Communi~ation was read from the Planning Department recommending the adoption of
<br />the name "Arnett Drive" to be applied to a frontage road located east of the Santa
<br />
<br />Ana Freeway, from the west side of North Main Street and extending in a northwest-
<br />erly direction parallel, more or less, to the Freeway, to Flower Street. On recom-!
<br />mendation of the Manager and on motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Hubbard and
<br />
