<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the recommendation
<br />of the Planning Cammission was approved and the variance of Dr. Hubert Nall granted
<br />to permit the construction of a medical center, emergency hospital and ambulance
<br />service, on property situated on both sides of South Baker Street, near Cubbon Stree
<br />~etween Bristol and Shelton Streets, subject to conditions as outlined by the Plann~
<br />ing Commission and Department of Public Works except that parking be provided for a
<br />minimum of fifty cars and the alley be abandoned.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Gould and carried, the recommendation of
<br />the Planning Com~f ssion was approved and the variance of Joseph S. Gentzler granted
<br />to permit the establishment of a home Agate Shop at 734 North Grand Avenue, subject
<br />to conditions of planning Commission and Department of Public Works.

<br />Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending denial of variance
<br />application of Harry Tancredi to permit the construction of a three-unit family
<br />dwelling with garages for each unit on property located on the north side of Highla~
<br />Street, 122 feet from the corner, between Bristol and Shelton Streets. It was move
<br />by Councilman Markel and seconded by Hubbard, that the recommendation of the
<br />sion be approved and the variance denied.

<br />Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending approval of appli-
<br />cation of Thompson M6Neal for a proposed trailer park develol~nent on 5 1/3 acres on
<br />the north side of First Street at the Santa Ana River, the river being the west
<br />boundary of the property~ in the M-1 District. On motion of Councilman Gould,
<br />seconded by Hubbard and carried, the recommendation of the Commission was approved
<br />and the application granted subject to the conditions of the Health Department.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the communication fr¢
<br /> the Planning Commission was received and filed recommending approval of abandonment
<br /> of certain alleys in Assessment District No. 197.
<br />
<br /> Mayor Heinly presented a merit certificate and a cash award to K~isuke Kay }{ara,
<br /> who was the outstanding driver of the month in the Santa Ana Safe Driving Campaign.
<br /> On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the Purchasing Agent
<br /> was authorized to advertise for the furnishing and delivering of Plant Mix, per
<br /> Specification No. 488-7; bids to be opened September 3, 1957.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, Preliminary Record
<br /> of Survey submitted by C. J. Segerstrom & Sons, on property situated approximately
<br /> 1200 feet east of Harbor Boulevard and directly south of Delhi Road, was approved
<br /> subject to conditions of the Department of Public Works.

<br />Communication was read from the City Attorney reference release of bond filed on
<br />Tract No. 2494, and 'on motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Hubbard and carried,
<br />the bond of Orange County Dwellings, Inc., filed for the improvements of Pine,
<br />Walnut, Forest, Western, and Chestnut Streets, and the alley and a portion of First
<br />
