<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Markel aud carried, the c~mnunication
<br />from the State of California, Department of Public Works, was received and filed,
<br />
<br />expressing appreciation for the submission of the Highway Needs report.
<br />
<br />It was moved by Councilman M,.ll, seconded by Hubbard and carried, that the matter
<br />
<br />of an appointment to the Personnel Board be continued until the next regular
<br />
<br />On motion of Cou~cilm~n Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication
<br />
<br />from the Metropolitan Water District transmitting Controller's Annual Report for
<br />1956-57 containing a statement of the amount of water stored by the District and
<br />used by member~mtcipalities, was received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the communication
<br />
<br />from Civic Beautification Committee, Chamber of Commerce, reference the
<br />
<br />of the three northerly turnoffs from the Freeway, namely, Flower Street, Broadway
<br />
<br />and Main and that City-owned land should be kept free of weeds and litter, was
<br />
<br />referred to the Manager for appropriate action.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the communication
<br />
<br />from F. P. Townsend, 201½ West Tenth Street, requesting the elimination of the ~"dip
<br />at the intersection of Tenth and Sycamore Streets, was received, filed and referred
<br />to the Manager for appropriate action.

<br />On motion of Councilm~ Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the petition for
<br />
<br />annexation signed by Hitoshi Nitta, Minoru Nitta et al, communication from the
<br />Boundary Commission advising that the boundaries of the proposed "Fairview and
<br />Raitt S.W. Annex" are reasonably definite and certain, and from the Planning Cc~m~s~
<br />sion ~ecommending approval of proposed annexation of territory located on the south
<br />side ~f ~airview Aveheginning at a point approximately' 681.16 feet east of Sullivan
<br />Street, extending east to Raitt Street and south approximately 2000 feet, were
<br />
<br />received and filed.
<br />
<br />The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution, on motion of
<br />Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the following Resolution enti~
<br />
<br /> 'Resolution No. 57-206 giving notice of proposed annexation to the
<br /> City of Santa ~a of that certain uninhabited territory described
<br /> herein and designated 'Fairview and Raitt S.W. Annex', and giving
<br /> notice of time and place for hearing of protests thereto"
<br />
<br />was considered and passed by the following vote:

<br />Noes, Councilmen None
<br />Absent, Councilmen Stanley C. Gould, Jr.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from the Personnel Board recommending that all members of
<br />the Police Department who have not had a psychiatric examination be given such an
<br />examination at the earliest possible date. On motion of Councilman Hubbard,
<br />seconded by Markel and carried, the communication was filed approving a portion of
<br />the recommendation that members of the Police Department who have not had a
<br />psychiatric examination be given such examination at the time the applicant applies
<br />for promotion.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilm~u Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the Minutes of
<br />the Personnel Board, dated June 26, 1957, were received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the request of
<br />Community Players was denied for permission to use the Meeting Room at the
<br />
<br />Center, without charge, on the evenings of August 20, 21 and 22, and the
<br />
<br />ordered notified of the Council's policy on rental of the premises.
