'OF SANTA Alta <br /> <br />CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES ANALYST <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under direction, performs technical, analytical work in the co~pilation, analysis, <br />interpretation and evaluation of data relating to crime, law enforcement, probation <br />or the administration of cr{m~nal Justice. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES 9F DUTIES <br /> <br />Compiles, edits, analyzes, interprets and evaluates data from various sources to dis- <br />close patterns, trends or evidence of criminal activity; determines credibility, per- <br />tinence and reliability of information; utilizes sophisticated analytical techniques <br />such as link analysis, association matrix and charting; organizes diverse criminal <br />~ntelli§ence information from many sources into a logical, meaningful sequence, prepares <br />comprehensive, concise reports s--~arizing findings and containing conclusions and <br />recommendations based on conditions and trends indicated bY the data; provides tactical <br />and strategic information to law enforcement agencies; develops and perfects procedures <br />for reporting crimes, arrests, court actions and related information; interfaces with <br />local, county, state, and federal Jurisdictions in rnmtters per~aining to the collection, <br />classification, analysis, and reporting of data~ participates in meetings and seminars <br />to inform local and other law enforcement agencies of activities; assists in maintain- <br />ing security of confided=iai files; may occasionally testify in court; may assist in <br />preparation of training manuals; performs related duties .as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING .FEATURES OF, THE 9LASS, <br /> <br />A person in this class must be able to establish a rapport and effective working <br />relationship with sworn law enforcement officers. This person must analyze voluminous <br />data, arrive at valid conclusions and condense this information into summarized reports. <br /> <br /> RECOM/~ENDED MINIMUM qUALIfiCATIONS <br /> <br />~-Graduatton from an accredited four-year college or universtty~tth major course work <br /> .n police science, criminal justice, crime research or a related field and one year of <br /> ~xperience in law enforcement which includes assignments in compiling and interpreting <br /> ~tatistical data, participating in research projects and conducting intelligence <br /> ,nalysis o__rany equivalent combination of exRerience and education which provides the <br /> following knowledge, skills and ability. Knowledge of: sources of intelligence <br /> information; techniques of data evaluation and analysis. Ability to: draw sound <br /> conclusions from minimal information; recognize patterns and trends of criminal <br /> activity; prepare comprehensive~ concise reports and communicate effectively orally <br /> and in writing. <br /> <br /> <br />
