<br />On motion of 001A~ctlm~n Gould, seconded by Nubbard and carried, the recommendation
<br />of the p]anntng Cr~m, tssion was approved and the variance of ~ain & Washington, Inc.,
<br />granted to pemit the construction of a building consisting of 6,750 sq,,~e feet on
<br />property at 1318 North Main Street, to be used by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
<br />for a retail outlet store for the sale of their products, including the recapping of
<br />tires, subject to conditions of the Depa~aent of Public Works and the Cc~mission.
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the rec~ndation
<br />of the Planning 0o-,,1 ssion was approved and the variance of Mrs. Anita Gal ]egos
<br />granted to permit the construction of two duplexes on property located at the south-
<br />west corner of Delhi Road and Evergreen Street, in an R-1 District, subject to con-
<br />ditions of the Co~nission and the Department of Public Works.

<br />C~ication was read from the p~anntug C~m~ission rec,.~.,~nding denial of variance
<br />application of J~m~s E. Serven to permit conversion of existing accessory b,,t~ding
<br />on property located at 319 East Harwood Place, presently used as a gun shop, into a
<br />single-f~m~]y dwelling, decreasing the rear-yard requirements to five feet, in an
<br />R-1 District. On motion of Councflm~n Gould, seconded by Hubbard and carried,
<br />action on the variance was continued until September 16, 1957.

<br />C~*w~unication was read fr~n the Planning C~ission recommending denial of variance
<br />application of Edward J. and Velm~ V. Naffziger to permit construction of a duplex
<br />on property at 22~0 South Flower Street, in the R-1 Zone. A protest petition
<br />signed by approximately twenty-three persons and protests of Mrs. S.L.Beall and Mr.
<br />and Mrs. L.J.Ferrier were read and on motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by
<br />Markel and carried, the protests were received and filed. On motion of CO~IlCtlman
<br />Hubbard, seconded by M~rkel and carried, the recommendation of the Planning C~mmiss~
<br />was approved and the variance denied.

<br />Cc~m~unication was read from the Planning Co,.,tssion recommending denial of variance
<br />application of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry ~aHn to permit construction of a two-story, eight-
<br />unit apartment building on property on the northeast corner of South Flower Street
<br />and West St. Gertrude Place, consisting of two vacant lots, with 98 foot frontage
<br />on Flower Street and 137 foot frontage on St. Gertrude Place, in an R-1 District.
<br />Four persons stood in protest. Charles E. Appleton, owner of one-half of the
<br />property spoke in favor of the variance. On motion of Counct 1man Gould, seconded
<br />by Markel and carried, the recommendation of the Planning C~mm~ ssion was approved
<br />and the variance denied.

<br />Communication was read frmm the P~nning C~mmission recommending denial of variance
<br />application of Bernard and Rebecca Resnicoff to pemit construction of two duplexes,
<br />one bedroom each, on property at lll6 Cypress Avenue, in an R-2 District, but
<br />approved construction of one duplex on rear part of the lot, subject to certain
<br />conditions. The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution,
<br />on motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Hubbar~ and carried, the following
<br />Resolution entitled:
