Commission <br />Orange County Street <br />Naming Committee <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the recommendation <br /> <br />of the Planning Commission was approved and Variance Application No. 1075 filed by <br /> <br />Samuel E. Thompson granted to permit construction of an office building (42½ feet <br /> on property at ~17 West Eighth Street, <br />by 85 feet in size~/for the use of Otto A. and Robert H. Jacobs, Attorneys, the <br /> <br />entire ground floor to be reserved e!m~st exclusively for vehicle parking (nine <br />off-street parking spaces), with the exception of a ~me~l portion at the rear that <br />may, for a time, be rented to the architects, subject to conditions. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the recommendation <br />of the P~ ennlng Commission was approved and Variance Application No. 1076 filed by <br />Virgil Orvid Shields granted to permit the use of the existing dwelling at 848 <br />North Birch Street, in R-3 District, for the executive offices for the ~merican <br />Cancer Society and for storage of campaign materials, and from time to time as a <br />meeting place for volunteer workers, subject to a condition. <br /> <br />On motion of Councl!.~n Hubbard, second by Hall and carried, the recommendation <br />of the planning Commission was approved and Variance Application No. 1077 filed by <br />Rom Investment Company granted to permit construction of a two-story, six-unit <br />multiple famtly apartment, with decrease in front setback from the required 60 feet <br />to 45 feet (15 feet from property ll~e)~ on property situated at 1425 East Fruit <br />Street, in R-1 District. <br /> <br />C~ication was read from the Pl~nnt~g ~Commission recommending denial of Variance <br />Application No. 1071 filed by James W. and Richard P. Matthews to erect a one-story, <br />two-bedroom house on front part of the lot, on property situated at 1228 West <br /> <br />Cul~bon Street, in R-1 District, with attached gate, e; and one duplex (one bedroom <br />sach unit) on rear part of lot, with parking area for two cars and to demolish <br />existing house on the property. The applicant stated he had ample off-street <br />parking and presented photographs of the property. On motion of COunctlm~n <br />Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission <br />was approved and the Variance denied. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the recommendation of <br />the Planning Commission was approved and the request of Louis Struikm-n granted <br />to establish set-back lines on property consisting of approximately ten acres, <br />lo~ated generally at the southeast corner of the proposed Fairview Street and <br />Edinger Street intersection. <br /> <br />Communication was presented from the Planning D~partment recommending that the name <br />of Pankey Street be changed to Hunter Avenue, in honor of Ex-Connc~lm~ Orson Eunter <br />and Ex-Clerk of the Council Erma Hunter. The Council having ,,nanimously waived <br />the reading of the Resolution, on motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall <br />and carried, the following Resolution entitled: <br /> <br /> "Resolution No. 59-57 changing the n~me of Pankey Street ~o <br /> Hunter Avenue" <br /> <br />was considered and passed by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes, Counc~!,~n Royal E. Heinly <br /> <br />Communication was again presented from the Planning Commission advising consideration <br />was given to commmmication from the Orange County Street Naming Committee and copy <br />of a Master Plan of Street Names for Arterial Highways and their request for <br />comments and suggestions at an early date so that they can coordinate with changes <br />already under way. The Commission was directed to give an inform~l opinion to the <br />Council indicating they do not favor the changing of First Street to Bolsa Avenue <br /> <br /> <br />
