<br />Co~mr~uication was read from the P18nning Co~aission recommending denial of Variance
<br />
<br />Application No. 1080 filed by Elmer Buckertto construct a detached garage on rear
<br />
<br />portion of the lot, with a two bedroom apartment above, on property situated at 2-108
<br />
<br />Orange Avenue, in R-2 District. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould
<br />
<br />and carried, the recc~mendation of the Planning Commission was approved and the
<br />
<br />Variance denied.
<br />
<br />On motion of CouncJlmsn Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, Variance Application
<br />
<br />No. 1083 filed by Farmers Underwriters Association to construct a building to be
<br />
<br />used for a regional office of the Farmers Insurance Group, the offices to be used
<br />
<br />only for a~m~strative purposes, and no sales operations to be conducted therefrom,
<br />
<br />except on the supervisory level, on property situated on the east side of Flower
<br />
<br />Street between Memory Lane and the Santa Aha Freeway, and petition signed by approx-
<br />
<br />~metely 341 persons protesting against the granting of the Variance, were referred
<br />
<br />to the Planning Commission for disposition.
<br />
<br />On motion of Co~lejlm~n Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, action was continued
<br />
<br />until the next informa~ afternoon session of the City Council on comm~uication from
<br />
<br />the Planning C~_~-~iission advising consideration was given to c~m~Uication from the
<br />
<br />Orange County Street Naming Committee regarding street name changes, and the
<br />
<br />Commission does not favor changing of First Street to Bolsa Avenue, Seventeenth Street
<br />
<br />to Westminster Avenue, but would look more favorably upon the change of McClay Street
<br /> and
<br />and Gramd Avemue ~ Glassell Street~mory r~ne to Garden Grove Boulevard.
<br />
<br />The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution, on motion of
<br />
<br />Counc~!m~n Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the following Resolution entitled:
<br />
<br />"Resolution No. 59-68 of the City Council of the City of Santa Ama
<br />proposing modifications in the work to be done in thoseproceed~ngs
<br />for the improvement of St. Andrew Place and other streets instituted
<br />pursuant to Resolution No. 58-139"
<br />

<br />determining and declaring that weeds which when mature b~ar wingy
<br />or downy seeds which will attain s~ch a large growth as to become a
<br />fire menace when dry, or which are noxious or dangerous, are growing
<br />upon certain streets, sidewalks, and private property in said City of
<br />Santa Ana, and are a public nuisance: directing the Director of Public
<br />Works to post notices to destroy said weeds as required by law; fixing
<br />the time for hearing objections and protests~ and directing the abate-
<br />ment thereof in accordance with Chapter 13, ~art 2, Division 3, Title
<br />4 of the Government Code of the State of California"
<br />
