position need not be a position without an incumbent. <br /> <br />Each such assignment may be terminated at any time, but in no event shall <br />such assignment continue beyond one hundred eighty (180) days of such <br />assignment. <br /> <br />Prior to recommending to the City Manager that a pay differential for a <br />Temporary Upgrade Assignment be granted, the Department Head shall make <br />the following determinations: <br /> <br />The duties and responsibilities of the position to be filled are of such <br />nature that they cannot remain unassigned pending the rem to duty <br />of the absent incumbent or preparation of an eligible list whichever <br />is applicable. <br /> <br />It is not practical to assign the duties of the vacant position to any <br />other employee or employees in the same or higher classification. <br /> <br />The City Manager or his designee must give written approval of all <br />Temporary Upgrade Assignments involving an increase in pay for the <br />appointee. <br /> <br />Eligibility. <br /> <br />With the exception of those described in paragraph 3 below, regular, Full <br />Time employees shall receive Temporary Upgrade Assignment Pay if the <br />following criteria are met: <br /> <br />The work assumed encompasses the majority of the typical duties <br />and responsibilities of the vacated position. <br /> <br />Employees must serve ten (10) consecutive working days of eight (8) <br />hours each, or eight (8) consecutive working days of ten (10) hours <br />each for employees working an alternative work schedule, in an <br />acting capacity to qualify for assignment pay. A permitted absence <br />of two (2) days or less during such ten (10) day period shall not be <br />deemed to void such consecutive service; however, the days of <br />absence shall not be counted in the computation of such ten (I 0) day <br />requirement. <br /> <br />in computing qualifying service rendered, only full days of actual <br />duty shall be included, and partial days shall not be combined to make <br />full days unless they are normally granted holiday hours. Normally <br />granted holidays will be included in computing actual duty days. <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br /> <br />
