<br />that a Resolution be adopted overruling the recommendation of the Planning Com-
<br />mission and granting the Variance, subject to the condition of installing the
<br />wall referred to across the width of the lot at the rear. Motion lost for lack of
<br />a second. The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution,
<br />on motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the following Reso-
<br />lution entitled:

<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded ~y Gould and carried, the recommendation
<br />of the Planning Commission was approved and Variance Application No. ll50, filed by
<br />Robert M. and E. Virginia Holt granted to remove existing garages located on rear
<br />of the lot, on property situated at 721 South Sycamore Street, in the R-3 District,
<br />and to provide off-street parking for the property to the rear fronting on Main
<br />Street, subject to conditions.

<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded hy Gould and carried, the recommendation
<br />of the Planning Commission was approved and Variance Application No. 1167, filed by
<br />Delores Medina granted to erect a new home on the rear of the lot, unattached to the
<br />present building, and to occupy sam~ on completion, with a s~milar new home on the
<br />front portion, on property situated at 706 North Fairlawn Street, in R-2 District,
<br />
<br />subject to conditions.

<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the recommendation
<br />of the Pls~ning Commis~on was approved end Variance A~plication No. 1168, filed by
<br />Tietz Construction Compan~ granted to w~ve 8 foot of a rear yard requirement on
<br />nine lots and erect patio covers on three lots, on property located on the north-
<br />
<br />east comer of Verano and Smeltzer Avenues, in R-1 District, su~jedt to conditions.

<br />Com.,~nication was read from the Planning Oomm~ ssion recommending ~pproval of
<br />Variance Application No. 1169, filed by Carl P. and Rita V. Writer, to convert an
<br />apartment house into an office building on property situated at 519 North Grand
<br />~venue, in R-3 Distri~ subject to conditions. Mr. Carl P. ?~riter, 1328 W.. Jac-
<br />aranda Place, Fullerten, stated that he did not understand it ~would be necessary to
<br />~eplace the asphalt driveway to a concrete driveway, but agreed to the conditions
<br />set forth~by the Planning Comm~seion~ On mm~on of~ Councilman Gould, seconded by
<br />Hubbard and carried, the recommendation of the~ Planning Commission was approved and
<br />Variance Application No. 1169, filed by Carl P. and Rita V. Writer, was granted,
<br />subject to conditions.

<br />Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending approval of Var-
<br />iance Application No. 1170, filed by Pm~i G. Dunn, to operate an auto repair busi-
<br />ness on property situated at 11111 East Fifth Street, in R-2 District, subject to
<br />conditions. W. J. Rabnuy, 215 South Flower Street, Costa Mesa, said he is the
<br />owner of property at 11115 East Fifth Street, and the establishment of a garage
<br />business will down-grade the property, and it is his intention to build a home on
<br />his property. Ccm~nunication was read from Mr. C. L. Burnette, protesting the
<br />granting of the Variance,and on motion of Councilman Hubbard, seceded by Gould
