On motic~ of Councilman Hubbard, secon <br />ded by Heinly and carried, the prote~ts were received and filed. The Mayor asked <br />if argrone in the audience wished to protest; Mr. Barney Lewis inquired how the rate <br />was determined for the square foot of pavement work done on his property, and the <br />question was satisfactorily answered by the Director of Public Works. Mr. Ponfilo <br />Madrigal, 1218 W. Oubbon, questioned the statement he received for the pavement wor <br />on his property, an&his questions were also answered by the Director of Public <br />Works. On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the hear- <br />ing was declared closed. The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the <br />Resolution, on motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the <br />following Resolution entitled: <br /> <br /> "Resolution No. 59-280 of the City Council of the City of Santa Arm <br /> confirming the assessment for the improvement of Towner Street and <br /> other streets" <br /> <br />Promotions <br />in Police Department <br /> <br />in Assesmnent District No. 202, was considered and passed by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes, Councilmen Royal E. Hall <br />Noes, Councilmen None <br />Absent, Councilmeu None <br />,, <br />Councilman Heinly presented Chief of Police Allen with a plaque, stating that for <br />many years the City of Santa Ana has attempted to be one of the best and safest <br />cities, and from July 1, 1958 to June 30, 1959, the Two-Wheeled Motorcycle- <br /> <br />Police Division of the Police Department had won the National Fleet Safety Contest <br />presented by the National Safety Council and the International Association of Chief~ <br /> <br />of Police. Chief Allen accepted the award with his appreciation and on behalf of <br /> <br />his men. <br /> <br />Chief of Police Allen presented Patrolmen Loran A. N~rton and Kenneth E. Day, stat-~ <br />ing t~ey had been promoted, after two years of service, from the rank of Patrolmam <br />to Sergeant~ and asked that the Oath of Office be administered to them. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, <br /> <br />Variance Application No. 1178 was granted, subject to ~cenditions. <br />,, <br />On motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the recommendation <br />of the Planning Commission was approved, and Variance Application No. 1188, filed <br />by Ed Palmer, to construct a two-family dwelling o~ rear part of the lot; a single- <br />family dwelling exists on front part of the lot, andthere is also an existing garage <br />on property situated at 1335 West Second Street in R-2 District, was granted, subject <br /> <br />to a condition, and in acCordance with plot plan. <br /># <br /> <br /> <br />
