Jensen <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the recommendation <br />of the Planning Commission was approved and Variance Application No. 1245, filed by <br />Walter G. and Ellen B. Rudey~ to erect a single-family house to the rear of an <br />existing house, without attaching them, on property at 1043 West Chestnut Street, <br />i~the R-2 District, was granted, subject to conditions. <br /> <br />Communication was read from the Planning Cv~aission recommending approval of Var- <br />iance Application No. 1246, filed by Ray B. Price, to construct a recreation club, <br />including but not limited to public plunge, recreation, dining~ picnic~ competitive <br />contests, shows, and the sale of related goods; more recreational facilities to be <br />built later at rear of the lot (i.e., tennis cou~s, track, baseball, tetherball); <br />with sign at entrancet~parking lot, on property at 1319 South Grand Avenue, in <br />the R-1 District, subject to conditions. Mel Maxwell, 2206 So. Flower Street, re- <br />presenting the applicant, stated we are attempting to provide additional recrea- <br />tional facilities at no expense to the taxpayers. The Council having waived the <br />reading of the Resolution, on motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Hubbard and <br />carried, the following Resolution entitled: <br /> <br /> "Resolution No. 60-17 granting Variance o~ Application No. <br /> 1246 where one condition is modified" <br /> <br />was considered and passed by the following vo~e: <br /> <br />Ayes, Councilmen Royal E. Hall <br />Noes, Councilmen None <br />Absent~ CoUncilmen None <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the recommendation <br />of the Planning Co~nission was approved and Variance Application No. 1247~ filed by <br />John and Wyladen Eckstein~ to enclose a breezeway~ thus converting it to a den, on <br />property at 1704 Loretta Lane, in the R-1 District, was granted. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilmau Gould, seconded by Heinly and carried, the recommendation <br />of the Planning Cc~ission was approved and Variance Application No. 1249, filed by <br />Warren G. Waters, to reduce required rear yard five feet, in order to construct a <br />den, on property at 1817 Meriday Lane, in the R-1 District, was granted, in accord- <br />ance with plot plan. <br /> <br />CGmmuntcation was read from the Planning Co~mnission rec~mnending denial of Variance <br />Application No. 1243, filed by Anna P. Jensen, to establish parking lots on property <br />at 1813 and 1817 West Sixteenth Street~ in the R-2 District~ and to waive the ten- <br />foot rear-yard requirement on property at 1832 West Seventeenth Street, in C-1-PK <br />District. Warren Sikora, 401 W. Eighth Street, owner of property at 1837-39 West <br />16th Street, objected to the parking lot and stated the granting of this Variance <br />would change the character of this newly-developed area, which is in an R-2 District. <br />Councilman Hubbard disqualified himself. Leroy G. Brae~man, 1806 W. 16th Street, <br />stated he had Just completed building triplexes directly across the street from the <br />proposed parking lot and the granting of this Variance would devaluate his property. <br />A petition was presented containing approximately 46 signatures protesting the <br />granting of this Variance~ and on motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Heinly and <br />carried, the petition was received and filed. Mrs. Mildred Beck, 18~5 W. 16th <br />Street, stated she secured most of the signatures of residents on 16th Street, and <br />the duplexes in the area cost from $20,000. to $30,000. William Campbell, 214 W. <br />Brd Street, stated Mrs. Jensen has owned this property for many years, and since <br />17th Street is commercial, she does not desire to live on this property; the <br /> <br /> <br />
