Thomas, to permit erection of two units above <br />existing four-car garage, on property at 133~ E. ~th Street, in the R-2 District. <br />Cu,~aanication was presented from the Planning C.-~aission recommending denial of <br />Variance Application No. 1291, filed by Alfred Carney and David E. Ascher, to con- <br />vert the front apartment to an office for The Burton Detective Agency, on property <br />at 713 Spurgeon Street, in the R-3 District. Sidney Berlin stated he owns The <br />Burton Detective Agency, and had lived at 713 Spurgeon Street for three years prior <br />to converting the front apartment to an office; that the owner of the apartment has <br /> <br />no objection to the office use which would be conducted primarily through telephone <br /> <br />calls; there are parking spaces for approximately twelve cars, although only about <br /> <br />six cars are parked there daily, and requested approval of the Variance Application. <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Gould that a Resolution be adopted over-ruling the Plan- <br /> <br />ning C~ission and granting the Variance for two years, for the purpose of a detec- <br /> <br />tive agency only, and no exterior signs be placed away from the building. Motion <br /> <br />lost for lack of a second.
