Kilson Drive~ iu P-1 District, in accordance with revised <br /> plot plan as submitted, <br /> <br /> Variance Application NO. 1355, filed by Dr. Charles W. Turner, to construct <br /> an office building eliminating one side-yard requirement, on property at llO East <br /> Pomona Street and lll East Berkeley Street, in R-2 District, subject to conditions <br /> and in accordance with revised and completed set of plans, and <br /> <br /> Variance Application No. 1356~ filed by Harry van Laarhoven, to build a patio <br /> roof, resulting in a reduced rear yard of 7 feet 8 inches, on property at 21~9 So. <br /> Rene Drive, in R-1 District, in accordance with plot plan. <br /> <br /> again <br /> On motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Heinly and carried, action was/continued, <br /> <br /> pending a report from the Planning Commission on Variance Application No. 1317, <br /> filed by William R. and Wanda Jackson, to build two additional single-family dwell- <br /> ings on a lot with two existing dwellings, on property at 5017 W. Fifth Street, in <br /> R-1 District, subject to conditions. <br /> <br /> Communication was presented from the Planning Con~nissfon recommending approval of <br /> Variance Application No. 13~8, filed by Rom Investment Company, to build an R-3 <br /> development (7 apartment houses, with a total of 60 one-bedroom units) on property <br /> at the northeast corner of Standard and Wilshire Avenues, in R-1 Distr~ct, subject <br /> to conditions. Petitions Mere presented signed by 14 persons, 85 persons, from <br /> <br />Mrs. Mary Uyesugi, ll~6 E. Wilshire Avenue, and from James W. Mayo, ll06 E. Oxford <br />Street, objecting to the Variance, and on motiGa of Councilman Gould, seconded by <br />Hubbard and carried, the petitions were received and filed. Joseph Ralston, <br />lll5 Griffin Place, representing twenty residents in the area who stood in protest, <br />stated this is an R-1 zone with too many apartments going into an already overcrowded <br />area, and that the one-bedroom dwellings were also being occupied by children for whom <br />there was no play area, nor adequate school facilities. Also, as the apartment occu- <br />pants were mostly transient, there was little or no care for the property they occu- <br />pied or the property of others, and submitted pictures depicting strewn trash and <br />overcrowded boxes of litter. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould <br />and carried, the pictures were received and filed. Mrs. John Church, ll~5 E. Wilshire <br />Avenue, stated there are 350 apartments within a square block radius, with many <br />trash and littered cans back of the apartment buildings, and as there are no garages, <br />parking on the streets, or in a cul-de-sac, is necessary, and requested that the <br />Variance be denied, permitting n o further construction of apartments in this <br />residential area.
