Edward J. Murphy, 1262 Hickory Street, representing the <br /> <br />Mail Carriers Association of Santa Ana, told of fourteen dog bites having been <br /> <br />reported to their Personnel Department since the first of the year, with enumerable <br />instances of dog attacks where the clothing of the mail carriers was torn, and con- <br />veyed the Postmaster's concern for the protection of his employees and his carriers <br /> <br />Mrs. William Wertens, 2313 So. Ramona Drive, suggested if everyone paid a license <br /> <br />fee for their dog, this would enable the hiring of another animal control man. It <br /> <br />was moved by Councilman Brewer and seconded by Schlueter that the following Ordi- <br /> <br />nance entitled: <br /> <br />"Ordinance amending Section 4115 of the Santa Aha Municipal <br /> Code to prohibit dogs running at large within the City of <br /> Santa Ana" <br /> <br />and to include "a leash of sufficient strength to support at least a forty-pound <br /> <br />test and not to exceed eight feet in length," be introduced, considered and placed <br />on file for second reading. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br /> <br />Ayes, Councilmen <br />Noes, Councilmen <br />Absent, Councilmen <br /> <br />Henry H. Maurer, M. D., 1011 West Buffalo Street, endorsing the enactment of a <br /> <br />dog leash law; from Kenneth D. Cook, 1813 Martha Lane, stating there is no Justifi-ii <br />cation, nor useful purpose, for dogs to run loose; and a petition with approx~m"te-i <br />ly 29 si~atures requesting a dog leash law, were received and filed. <br /> <br />Councilman Brewer returned to the meeting at 9:21 P.M. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the request of the i <br /> <br />Department of Public Works was granted, the plans and specifications approved, and <br /> <br />the Director of Public Works authorized to sign the plans on behalf of the City, <br /> <br />for the construction of the Santa Aha Gardens Channel (F-2) by the Orange County <br /> <br />Flood Control District. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the request of the <br /> <br />Department of Public Works was granted, the plans and specifications approved, and <br /> <br />the Purchasing Agent authorized to advertise for bids, for an addition to the Crew <br /> <br />Assembly Building, in the Corporation Yard, 730 E. Warner Avenue; bids to be opened <br /> <br />May 15, 1961. i <br />On motio~ of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the requests of the!~ <br /> <br />Department of Public Works were approved for payments as follows: <br /> <br /> To William D. Young, in the amount of $1,638.00, for street improvements in <br />Hazard Avenue adjacent to that property located at the northwest corner of Hazard <br />Avenue and Harbor Boulevard, in exchange for street dedication on primary streets; <br />and <br /> To A. J. Paddleford & SonS, in the amount of $2,099.50, for street improvement? <br />within the future street easement of Dyer Road at the southeast corner of Halladay <br />Street, in accordance with Council's policy for securing right-of-way for street ~, <br />widening, to be paid after dedication of street easement. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the request of the <br />Department of Public Works was granted, the plans and specifications approved, and i <br /> <br />the Purchasing Agent authorized to advertise for bids, for the improvement of park- <br /> <br /> <br />
