320 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 90-087 <br />PAGE TWO <br /> <br />Ail stairways shall be completely enclosed <br />with one-hour construction to exits; and <br />enclosed stairways or required exits shall <br />lead directly to the outside of the building. <br /> <br />Fire stops are required in floors in <br />accordance with Section 2517(f)2. In attic <br />areas, one-hour walls shall be required for <br />every one thousand (1,000) square feet of <br />area. <br /> <br />Smoke detectors with an alarm system, <br />receiving their primary power from the <br />building wiring, shall be required through- <br />out the building in accordance with NFPA <br />standards. <br /> <br />Either (a) corridors, regardless of occupant <br />load, shall be one-hour construction; or <br />(b) a "life safety" sprinkler system, as <br />approved by the fire department, shall be <br />installed in all corridors." <br /> <br />The City Council hereby finds and determines that there <br />are numerous pre-1946 buildings in downtown Santa Ana, <br />that such buildings are particularly vulnerable to <br />earthquakes and to earthquake-caused fires, that earthquakes <br />are a common occurrence in the local area, and that the <br />above amendment is necessary to address the enhanced risk <br />of fire in such buildings. <br /> <br /> 2. Proposed sections 8-169 and 8-170 of the Santa Ana <br />Municipal Code will amend the Uniform Building Code as follows: <br /> <br />"sec. 8-169. Re-roofing (Section 3210). <br /> <br /> Section 3210 is added to the Building Code, to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br /> Sec. 3210. Ail re-roofing shall conform to the <br />applicable provisions of Chapter 32 and Appendix Chapter <br />32 of this code. Roofing materials and methods of applica- <br />tion shall comply with the Uniform Building Code Standards <br />or shall follow the manufacturer's installation requirements <br />if approved by the building offical. <br /> <br /> <br />
