BOWERS MUSEUM The report dated <br />REOPENING STATUS March 27, 1974, from <br /> the Museum Director <br /> on Status of the <br />Reopening of the Bowers Museum was received and ordered filed <br />on motion of Councilman Griset, seconded by Councilman Evans, <br />and unanimously carried. (CA 85) <br /> <br />FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT The report dated <br />(S 2747 HR 12435) March 27, 1974, from <br /> the Fire Chief, providing <br /> Update on Amendments <br />to Fair Labor Standards Act was received and ordered filed <br />on motion of Councilman Griset, seconded by Councilman Evans, <br />and unanimously carried. (CA 50.1) <br /> <br />WAFFLE HOUSE The report dated <br /> March 28, 1974, from <br /> the Director of Public <br /> Works regarding <br />Relocation Cost Estimates on the Waffle House was received <br />and ordered filed on motion of Councilman Griset, seconded <br />by Councilman Evans, and carried with dissenting vote by <br />Councilman Yamamoto. <br /> <br />Mayor Patterson stated that a letter had just been received <br />from Donald B. Christeson, President of the Board of Directors <br />of the Santa Ana Community Hospital, indicating an interest <br />in preserving the Waffle House, and offering to move it onto <br />the new hospital site on Tustin Avenue, and to restore it <br />for use as a medical museum and medical library. The letter <br />further requested conveyance of the house to the hospital, and <br />a 30-day option to evaluate their site and arrange funds for <br />the restoration. <br /> <br />Councilman Griset's motion to reconsider the action taken at <br />the Council meeting on March 18, 1974, authorizing staff to <br />take whatever steps are necessary to deed the ~affle Kouse as <br />a gift to the Santa Ana Historical Preservation Society, was <br />seconded by Councilman Yamamoto and carried, with dissenting <br />votes by Councilmen Evans and Markel. <br /> <br />Council instructed the City Manager to prepare an outline of <br />an agreement that would incorporate the following: <br /> <br />1. Specific cost estimates for moving the house to various <br /> locations under consideration; <br /> <br />2. Establishment of $12,000.00 as the maximum amount tkat <br /> City would contribute toward moving costs; <br /> <br />3. Requirement that restoration of the house would conform <br /> with Building Code safety requirements; <br /> <br />4. Establishment of a time limit for completion of restora- <br /> tion (between 3 and 5 years); <br /> <br />Requirement that house be open to the public, perhaps <br />without charge, and be used for public purpose for a <br />specific term so that public good would be fulfilled. <br /> <br />In addition, staff was instructed to refer the proposal to the <br />Santa Ana Historical Preservation Society for review and to <br />set the entire matter for public hearing prior to any defini- <br />tive action conveying the property, on motion of Councilman <br />Griset, seconded by Councilman Evans, and unanimously carried. <br />(CA 8S.ld) <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />131 APRIL 1, 1974 <br /> <br /> <br />
