2. This project calls for the purchase of all trees and materials, and the planting of <br />24" Box trees. 24" Box trees must be headed out no less than 7' with a caliber <br />size of 1- 1/2 " -2" (measured three feet up from the base of the trunk) and free of <br />disease. No pruning or topping of the tree will be permitted. Sucker growth to be <br />removed from base of the tree only. <br />12 x 3 polyethelene plastic root barrier reflecting ribs on inside parallel to curb <br />and sidewalk. <br />3. The Contractor shall complete each individual planting list submitted by the City <br />within thirty (30) work days from the date received. <br />4. The Contractor shall provide daily log sheets of work completed to the Public <br />Works Agency. <br />Failure of the Contractor to complete the work within the time allowed will result <br />in damages being sustained by the Agency. For each consecutive working day in <br />excess of the time specified for completion of the work the Contractor shall pay to <br />the Agency, or have withheld from monies due it, the sum of $200 per day, unless <br />otherwise provided in the specifications. <br />P. TREE PRUNING <br />Limbs for traffic clearance shall be trimmed or removed to a height of fourteen <br />(14) feet from road surface and sidewalk side of the tree where practical, taking <br />into consideration the balanced appearance of the tree. Clean out center. Clear <br />street lights within ten (10) feet for illumination. Small limbs, suckers and water <br />sprouts shall be cut flush with the branch collar from which they arise. All dead <br />limbs and other vegetation (including ivy) shall be removed from the subject tree. <br />No topping or shaping crown of tree unless specified. <br />Tree Pruning shall be in conformance with the latest edition of the International <br />Society of Arboriculture Tree Pruning methods, techniques and standards. <br />2. All dead fronds, and part thereof including stubs, shall be removed along the <br />entire length of the trunk of each palm, leaving a clean unsheathed appearance <br />from the base to approximately 18 inches from the live fronds. Care shall be <br />taken so that no live fronds are partially cut and left hanging. Only healthy fronds <br />shall remain at crown of said tree. Remaining fronds shall stand at approximately <br />45 degrees angle to the head. <br />Structural weakness of trees, decayed trunk or branches shall be reported to the <br />City Inspector of this contract. These items will be reported on daily work sheets <br />and submitted to City Inspector of this contract. <br />4. The Contractor shall be given forty -five (45) working days to complete each <br />pruning list issued by the Public works Agency. <br />14 <br />
