PROCLAMATION Mayor Evans presented <br />GIRL SCOUT WEEK a Proclamation declar- <br /> ing March 9 through <br /> March 15 as Girl <br />Scout week to Mrs. Marion Wesson, who introduced eight <br />Girl Scouts, who each outlined briefly what her Scout activi- <br />ties have been for the past year. CA 46 <br /> <br />Councilman Bricken arrived at 7:45 P.M. <br /> <br />UNITED WAY AWARD TO Councilman Yamamoto <br />CITY EMPLOYEES stated that he had <br /> attended a dinner and <br /> had the distinct <br />pleasure of accepting an award given to the City of Santa <br />Ana Employees as one of the top organizations contributing <br />to the United Way of Orange County. Councilman Yamamoto <br />introduced Dick Santo, President of the Santa Ana City Em- <br />ployees Association, Dick Arthur of the Firemen~s Benevolent <br />Association, and Dick Bower, Police Benevolent Association, <br />who jointly accepted the award on behalf of all tke employees <br />of the City of Santa Ana. CA 9.4 <br /> <br />COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT Mr. John Meela stated <br />SANTA ANA CITIZENS that he is one of a <br />AGAINST CRIME group of citizens who <br /> has been out really, <br />trying to organize an effort against the crime problem in <br />our City; that Santa Ana has been nominated the crime capi- <br />tal of Orange County, which probably puts it within the top <br />ten. <br /> <br />He described the organization's work with the police Departs. <br />ment in encouraging residents to mark items of value with <br />driver's license or social security number. <br /> <br />He further stated that he had gone on a police rzde~,along~ <br />and that he thought the Police Department personnel were as <br />dedicated as any around. He recommended tkat Council get <br />funds from someplace to build the department up to standard, <br />even if it meant sacrificing other projects; that the <br />department cannot be expected to do the job without adequate <br />staff; that he thinks the citizens will cooperate 108 per cent; <br />and that his group will work with any other that l~ants te <br />start an "Identification" program in its area. <br /> <br />Councilman Markel stated that he did not feel that more <br />policemen could solve the crime problem, that we will have <br />to go to educating our children. <br /> <br />Mayor Evans stated that the Council was in the process of <br />reviewing and discussing methods of funding; that this is <br />not a matter that has been set back~ and that Mr. Meola's <br />input was certainly appreciated. CA <br /> <br />9.3 <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING Mayor Evans announced <br />DRAINAGE ASSESSMENT that this was the time <br />FEES REVISION and place for the <br /> public hearing on tko <br />proposed revision to the Local Drainage Area Fee Sckedule, <br />recommended by Planning Commission Resolution No, 6065, <br /> <br />The Director of Public Works <br />8, 1975 describing the basis <br />fees. <br /> <br />reviewed his report dated January <br />of calculation for the increased <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 97 <br /> <br />MARCH 10, 1975 <br /> <br /> <br />
