Mayor Evans presented a Proclamation to the representatives <br />o£ the American Red Cross proclaiming March as Red Cross <br />Month. CA 9.5 <br /> <br />SPECIAL PRESENTATION <br />FOR RETIRING COUNCILMEN <br />LORIN GRISET <br />J. OGDEN MARKEL <br /> <br />terms, had not sought reelection in <br /> <br /> Mayor Evans announced <br /> that Councilmen J. <br /> Ogden Markel and Lorin <br /> Griset, having served <br /> two full four-year <br />accordance with the <br /> <br />Charter limitation, and that Council had chosen this oppor- <br />tunity to pay tribute to them. <br /> <br />The Mayor presented each of their wives, Helene Markel and <br />Dorothy Griset, with the large color portrait photographs <br />which had been in the Council Chamber lobby. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 75-56 - A SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF THE CITY <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA COMMENDING COUNCILMAN AND <br />FORMER VICE-MAYOR J, OGDEN MARKEL was read aloud by the <br />Mayor and presented to Councilman Markel following its <br />unanimous adoption, on motion of Councilman Yamamoto, <br />seconded by Councilman Ward. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 75-35 - A SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF THE CITY <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA COMMENDING COUNCILMAN AND <br />FORMER MAYOR LORIN GRISET was read aloud by the Mayor and <br />presented to Councilman Griset following its unanimous <br />adoption, on motion of Councilman Garthe, seconded by <br />Councilman Bricken. <br /> <br />The Resolutions and the Councilmen's attache cases were <br />presented to them by the Mayor on behalf of the Council. <br /> <br />Councilman Markel gave praise to a citizen of Santa Ana~ <br />Catherine Quick, who worked tirelessly for a fine library <br />in.the City; he paid a special tribute to his wife, who <br />was able to adjust to his busy schedule and assisted him <br />in many ways; he also introduced his sister. <br /> <br />Councilman Griset stated that God had directed him to become <br />a Councilman; that he had no ambition for the post; that he <br />was looking forward to living in his new home in Santa Ana; <br />and that he stands ready to help to accomplish the many <br />things~that still need to be done. <br /> <br />Catherine Quick stated that she was overwhelmed by the tri.. <br />bute paid to her by Councilman Markel; and that she felt it <br />a great privilege that Santa Ana is governed by the ty]pe of <br />men that this Council had honored tonight, and by the type <br />of men who now sit on the City Council. CA 80 <br /> <br />PETITION FOR Mr, Mike Valenzuela, <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL representing the <br />5TH & EUCLID Silver Acres residents, <br /> presented a petition <br />for a traffic signal at 5th Street and Euclid. He stated <br />that there had been several accidents at-the intersection, <br />and many more close calls; that the City today is installing <br />a blinker signal, but that residents feel a full traffic <br />signal installation is needed. <br /> <br />Pastor Dunivent of the Silver Acres Community Church stated <br />that he appreciated the work that had been done at the inte~ <br />section, but that precious lives were at stake; and that <br />possibly the reduction in numbers of ambulance calls w~uld <br />defray the cost of the traffic signal. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 111 MARCH 17, 1975 <br /> <br /> <br />
