CRIME ABATEMENT The immediate hiring <br />PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION of 45 additional <br /> police employees; the <br /> purchase of up to 25 <br />patrol ~type vehicles under an existing contract with the <br />County of Orange, and 5 undercover police intermediate-size <br />vehicles from available sources; the acquisition of 8 <br />portable radios as sole-source items compatible with exist- <br />lng radio equipment; and budget transfers to provide funds <br />for the approved implementation, was approved on the motion <br />of Councilman Evans, seconded by Councilman Yamamoto, and <br />unanimously carried (7-0). <br /> <br />The consensus was that there be vigorous enforcement of the <br />City's Affirmative Action Program. Chief Davis reported to <br />the Council that hiring has been 24% minority, and that the <br />retention rate has been 22%; that the present eligibility <br />list is 27% minority. CA 47.9 <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATION Two Resolutions of <br />DOUG DAVIDSON Greater Santa Ana <br />CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Chamber of Commerce <br /> endorsing and <br />supporting the implementation of the Crime Prevention <br />Program and the Paramedic Program were presented to the <br />Council for their consideration. CA 47.9 <br /> CA 64.2 <br /> <br />APPEAL OF WEED Appeal of the weed <br />ABATEMENT ASSESSMENT abatement assessment <br />222 SOUTH BRISTOL STREET made on the property <br /> at 222 South Bris- <br />tol Street was denied and Mr. Root, appellant, was advised <br />to obtain reimbursement of the abatement charges from the <br />property owner of record at the time the weed abatement <br />was completed by City forces, Ann Todd, on the motion of <br />Councilman Evans, seconded by Councilman Yamamoto, and <br />carried (6-1) with Councilman Bricken dissenting. <br /> <br />Mr. Warren Root appeared before Council to appeal the weed <br />abatement assessment because he was not the owner of record <br />at the time the work.was done by the City; and Ron Wolford, <br />Public Works Director, and Hector Godinez, crew chief, <br />presented an oral report of the facts related to the abate-. <br />ment. CA 11 <br /> <br />RECESS The Mayor recessed <br /> the meeting to <br /> Executive Session <br /> at 4:35 P.M. to <br />consider personnel and legal matters, and reconvened at <br />5:50 P.M. with the same members present.
