The motion was made after Mr. Flip Darr, Coach of the Southern <br />California Aquatics Club of Santa Ana explained the program <br />of the Club and answered questions of Councilmen; he said the <br />Club would train for Olympic competition, as well as run a <br />total program for swimmers at all levels from novice to <br />master; that he had started a program in Huntington Beach <br />with 14 swimmers, and in five years had 500 swimmers, with <br />not more than 10% living outside the city; and that some <br />exceptional swimmers will help to attract and inspire young- <br />sters, as well as gain recognition for Santa Ana. CA 52 <br /> <br />SUPPORT OF AB 2752 Consideration of <br />OCTD COMPETING SERVICES support of Assembly <br />CONTINUED Bill 2752 was con- <br /> tinued for 30 days <br />for a report from Staff on the status of the bill at that <br />time, and on service improvements in the Orange County <br />Transit District during the 30-day period, on the unani- <br />mously carried (6:0) motion of Councilman Yamamoto, seconded <br />by Councilman Ward. <br /> <br />Councilmen Brandt and Ward shared the opinion that taxpayers' <br />funds should not be used to force private enterprise out of <br />business. CA 57 <br /> <br />OPPOSITION TO AB 301 As recommended by <br />PUBLIC SAFETY EMPLOYEES BILL the League of Call- <br />OPPOSED AB 301 fornia Cities, the <br /> Council acted to <br />oppose the passage of AB 301, Bill of Rights for Public <br />Safety Employees, and urge.State legislators representing <br />Orange County to oppose the Bill, on the motion of Council- <br />man Brandt, seconded by Councilman Evans, and carried (6:0) <br />unanimously. - CA 57 <br /> <br />A.A. #121 - WIRELESS The replacement of <br />MICROPHONE the wireless micro- <br />APPROVED phone used in the <br /> Council Chambers, and <br />the transfer of funds by Appropriation Adjustment #121 was <br />approved, on the motion of Councilman Ward, seconded by <br />Councilman Brandt, and carried (5:1), with Councilman <br />Ortiz dissenting.
