CA 139 <br /> <br />RECESS - JOINT DINNER MEETING <br />BOARD OF RECREATION ~ PARKS <br /> <br />and Parks at the Saddleback Inn. <br /> <br />Council recessed at <br />4:55 P.M. for a joint <br />dinner meeting with <br />the Board of Recreation <br /> <br />JOINT DINNER MEETING WITH Mayor Garthe welcomed <br />BOARD OF RECREATION & PARKS the members of the <br /> Board of Recreation and <br /> Parks present: Donald <br />Bass, Glen C. Evans, Ruben Hernandez and John A. Thompson; <br />and thanked them for the opportunity to hear their ideas and <br />recommendations. <br /> <br />Robert Gresham, the new Director of Recreation and Parks, <br />was introduced, and stated that regarding the question of <br />a nine-member Board, he felt that a seven-member Board could <br />be sufficiently effective; that he could not seethe need <br />for a larger Board except to answer the need for further <br />representation, such as from ether school boards which operate <br />in Santa Aha. <br /> <br />Councilman Evans stated that he was concerned, and would <br />remind the Council, that they should_make sure all areas are <br />represented. Councilman Brandt said he was not so concerned <br />that the members actually live in a particular Ward, but <br />that they represent geographical areas. Councilman Ward <br />stated that he was definitely in favor of the School Board <br />representatives. <br /> <br />John. Thompson said the Board had been considering establish- <br />ing some three-man committees to deal with specific problems, <br />such as forestry. Councilman Ward said that when the present <br />plans for redevelopment of the downtown area and the <br />sports-cultural center are complete, he could see an expanded <br />role for the Board of Recreation and Parks; that if the Board <br />feels that it needs more members it can come to Council with <br />a recommendation. <br /> <br />Councilman Bricken said he thought that the Board should <br />modify itself or adjust its format to do its work; that he <br />hoped the Board would take a more agressive position regard- <br />ing long-range issues; and that it has the capacity to be <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 131 APRIL $, 1976 <br /> <br /> <br />
