CHAMBER - ANNUAL PARADE City and the Santa Ana <br />APPROVED Junior Chamber of Com- <br /> merce authorizing a con- <br />tribution not to exceed $2,500 to defray the expense of holding <br />the Annual Frolic Parade was approved on the motion of Council- <br />man Ward, seconded by Councilman Bricken, and carried (S:0) <br />unanimously, with the request that the Jaycees provide the <br />Council with a report on the status of participation and com- <br />munity interest prior to the date of the parade. <br /> <br />Councilman Ward expressed disappointment with the limited suc- <br />cess of the parade last year; he urged the Jaycees to make <br />every effort to encourage support by the local businessmen to <br />provide greater participation. <br /> <br />Gerald A. Wolf, President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, <br />1418 Bast Grovemont, stated that they too are concerned with <br />this problem; that he has contacted members of the City Parks <br />and Recreation Department for assistance with planning and <br />publicity; and that the Jr. Chamber hopes to receive support <br />from the business community so that next year they will not <br />have to come to the City for a contribution. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Evans stated that the Council had not yet adopted a <br />policy on parades, and that he would not care to support fur- <br />ther contributions until a policy is adopted. (Agenda <br />Item 12 A) A-76-96 <br /> <br /> SPURGBON TREE PROJECT The letter dated Septem- <br /> REFERRED bet 22, 1976 from James <br /> D. Sleeper, Chairman <br /> of the Cultural Heritage <br />- Committee, asking for City participation in a project to plant <br />a sycamore tree honoring William Spurgeon, was referred to <br />Staff for report and recommendation on the motion of Council- <br />man Ward, seconded by Councilman Brandt, and carried 5:0 <br /> unanimously. CA 85.1 <br /> <br />EMERGENCY PURCHASE On the recommendation <br />SPEC 76-056 - FIRE ENGINE of the Equipment <br />APPROVED Maintenance Superinten- <br /> dent and the Fire Chief, <br />approval was given for the emergency purchase of one 8V-71 <br />diesel engine to repower Fire Department Engine No. 41-11 from <br />Beacon truck dismantlers for $$,500 plus tax, on the unanimously <br />(S:0) approved motion of Councilman Ward, seconded by Councilman <br />Brandt.
