RECONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED A request for reconsidera- <br />CODE AMENDMENT - WOOLLY MONKEY tion of Council action <br />REFERRED TO STAFF taken March 20, 1978 not <br /> to amend the Municipal <br />Code to allow a woolly monkey in the City was granted, and Staff <br />was directed to compare Santa Ana's animal control ordinances <br />with those of cities within proximity to Santa Ana with the intent <br />of broadening the license abilities and broadening the types of <br />animals that are allowed within the City, on the motion of <br />Councilman Brandt, seconded by Councilman Bricken, carried 5:1, <br />with Councilman Yamamoto dissenting. The request was made by <br />a letter dated March 23, 1978 submitted by Jackie Maynard, owner <br />of a woolly monkey. Councilman Bricken stated that the intent of <br />the motion is to obtain an ordinance that will allow certain <br />exotic animals under very strict and stringent licensing proce- <br />dures toward the goal of better animal management. CA 151 <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR SISTER CITY Councilman Yamamoto <br />HIROSAKI, JAPAN announced that a request <br />VOTE OF CONFIDENCE GIVEN had been received from <br /> Mike Schumaker for the City <br />to participate in the Sister City Program with the Japanese City <br />of Hirosaki; that Mr. Schumaker had visited the City while writ- <br />ing a term paper; that Mr. Schumaker had become acquainted with <br />the City Council members, and was interested in initiating the <br />project with the assistance of the Rotary Club. Vice Mayor Ward <br />restated a past Council position on the Sister City Program, that <br />if the program is well supported by the private sector of the <br />City, such as service clubs, the City Council would be happy to <br />endorse the activity. On the motion of Councilman Ortiz, <br />seconded by Councilman Brandt, the project was given a vote of <br />confidence for development by the Rotary Club or other private <br />organizations; the motion carried unanimously S:0.
