SANTIAGO CREEK REPAIRS Following a discussion <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT NO. 1 pointing out that the <br />CONTINUED proposed Santiago Creek <br /> repairs would result in <br />the closure of Valencia Street at the Creek, on the motion of <br />Councilman Bricken, seconded by Councilman Brandt, carried 5:0 <br />unanimously, consideration of the repair of Santiago Creek and <br />Appropriation Adjustment No. 1 was continued to the public <br />hearing scheduled on July 17, 1978 at 7:30 P.M. A previous <br />motion by Councilman Yamamoto, seconded by Councilman Brandt <br />to receive and file the report, to approve Appropriation <br />Adjustmment No. 1 and to approve replacement Of the eroded <br />parking lot at Valencia and Santiago Creek, was abandoned <br />in favor of the substitute motion to continue the matter. <br /> <br />The report dated June 30, 1978, prepared by John Stevens, Public <br />Works Director, described the damage to the Creek and his <br />proposal to utilize $16,212 approved by the U. S. Department of <br />Housing and Urban Development for repair of the undermined <br />parking lot in the bed of the Creek at the Valencia Street <br />crossing. CA 65.3 <br /> <br />SAFER ROADS DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM Appropriation Adjustment <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT NO. 2 No. 2 to receive Federal <br />APPROVED Grant Funds of $260,565 <br /> and to transfer $30,000 <br />from Public Works Local Streets and Curbs and Sidewalks to <br />provide matching funds for the Safer Roads Demonstration Pro- <br />gram, was approved on the motion of Councilman Yamamoto, seconded <br />by Councilman Bricken, carried 5:0 unanimously. <br /> <br />This Appropriation Adjustment provides for the funds necessary <br />to award a contract to grade, construct curb, gutter, sidewalks, <br />and access ramps and pave and otherwise improve certain streets <br />to provide safe routes leading to schools. (Project 2041 awarded <br />on the afternoon Consent Calendar) CA 65.3 <br /> <br />LIABILITY INSURANCE RENEWAL The purchase of liability <br />FISCAL YEAR 1978-79 insurance in excess of <br />APPROVED a self-insured retention <br /> of $500,000 for fiscal <br />year 1978-79, at a cost of $241,000 from Central National <br />Insurance Company, was approved on the unanimously carried 5:0 <br />motion of Councilman Yamamoto, seconded by Councilman Bricken. <br />Risk Manager Karen Adams stated in her report dated June 30, <br />1978 that insurance protection for public liability with a <br />self-insured retention of $100,000 is no longer available, and <br />that a stabilization in the insurance market provided quota- <br />tions for retentions of $250,000 and $500,000 at significant <br />premium reductions. She further reported that Central National <br />Insurance Company had provided the lowest quotation, can offer <br />more coverage by the inclusion of umbrella protection, and can <br />underwrite the entire span of coverage from the $500,000 reten- <br />tion to $10 million. OWEN Mrs. William Owen, 2016 W. <br />NOISE FROM JACUZZI PUMP 15th Street, read a <br />REFERRED TO STAFF letter to the Council <br /> contending that the noise <br />emanating from a jacuzzi pump in the back yard next door was <br />noise pollution; that she and her husband are distressed by <br />the loud, high-pitched, unmuffled noise of the pump-filter <br />system. Mrs. Owen's letter of request to defer final approval <br />of equipment installed at 2010 W. 1Sth Street until adequate <br />sound buffering can be accomplished was referred to Staff for <br />resolution on the motion of Councilman Yamamoto, seconded by <br />Councilman Bricken, carried 5:0 unanimously.
