ACTIONS TAKEN TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF HOMELESS PERSONS AND THE SPECIAL NEEDS <br />OF PERSONS THAT ARE NOT HOMELESS BUT REQUIRE SUPPORTIVE HOUSING (INCLUDING <br />PERSONS WITH HIV/AIDS): Santa Ana provided substantial CDBG, ESG and HOPW A <br />resources to nonprofit agencies for homelessness prevention, emergency shelter, <br />transitional housing, and supportive services, The table below provides an overview <br />of how ESG funds were utilized during the 2004-2005 report period, <br /> <br /> <br />Homelessness $26,000 8% <br />Prevention <br />Shelter Operations $178,000, 57% <br />Essential Services $92,665, 30% <br />Shelter Renovations $0 0% <br />Program Admin $15,614 5% <br />Total $312,279 100% <br /> <br />Additionally, 57 individuals with HIV/AIDS were assisted with tenant based rental <br />assistance funded with HOPW A resources. HOPW A funds were utilized to assist <br />84 individuals with transitional housing, 208 households with emergency rental/utility <br />assistance, three individuals with home hospice care, and 26 individuals with detox <br />drug treatment services. <br /> <br />2. SUMMARY OF ACTIONS TAKEN DURING THE PROGRAM TO DEVELOP A CONTINUUM OF CARE <br />STRATEGY: Specific actions undertaken during the report period to assist the <br />homeless through a system of care included the following: <br /> <br />a. Actions taken to prevent homelessness - Santa Ana provided nonprofit homeless <br />service providers with ESG funds during the report period in order to prevent 370 <br />individuals from becoming homelessness. On a countywide basis, HOPW A <br />funds were utilized to assist 208 persons with HIV/AIDS from becoming <br />homelessness. <br /> <br />b. Actions taken to address emerqencv shelter - ESG funds were utilized to provide <br />emergency shelter and services for the City's homeless. A total of 911 <br />individuals were assisted during the report period with ESG funds.9 Grant funds <br />were used to offset the operating costs for emergency shelter programs and <br />essential services for the homeless. CDBG funding was also used to support <br />emergency shelter services for 371 individuals. <br /> <br />9 ESG in an amount of $92,665 was provided for essential services and $178,000 for facility operations. <br />These funds were utilized for both emergency shelter and transitional housing programs. <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br />9/7/05 <br /> <br />190-19 <br />
