<br />2. Service Time Substitution. Subject to the condition <br />that it would not be deemed to constitute <br />compensable "hours worked" under provisions of the <br />Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-paid volunteer <br />service with a recognized Santa Ana or Orange <br />County community service or charitable organization <br />which serves Santa Ana residents directly or <br />indirectly may be substituted for up to 50% of the <br />service time specified in Subsection D3 above. <br /> <br />Typical "recognized" community service/charitable <br />organizations include Santa Ana service clubs such <br />as Lions, Elks, etc.; a Santa Ana youth sports <br />league; the Santa Ana YMCA/YWCA; the Orange County <br />Red Cross; the Orange County United Way, or other <br />County-wide charitable organization, etc. <br /> <br />7.2 Non-Sworn Fire Education and Fire Safety. Personnel in <br />the classifications of Fire Safety Specialist I and Fire <br />Education Specialist I who have successfully completed <br />their probationary period with the Santa Ana Fire <br />Department and personnel in the classifications of Fire <br />Education Specialist II, Fire Safety Specialist II, Fire <br />Safety Specialist III and Fire Safety Analyst will be <br />eligible to qualify for and participate in the Fire <br />Prevention Career Development Program as set forth below. <br /> <br />A. Senior Fire Prevention Personnel I. Any personnel in <br />the classifications listed in Section 7.2 who attain <br />the educational training and experience qualifications <br />specified below shall be paid an additional ten (10) <br />salary rate ranges (approximately 5%) above his or her <br />then current base monthly salary step. The criteria <br />for such designation shall be as follows: <br /> <br />1. Completion of at least sixty (60) college semester <br />units (or equivalent quarter units) with major <br />course work in Fire Science or other related areas, <br />which may include studies in Chemistry, Computer <br />Sciences, Physics, Management, Public <br />Administration, Education, etc., from an accredited <br />college or university; and <br /> <br />2. Completion of a total of four (4) points from <br />Section 7.2D. Two (2) points must be selected from <br />Section 7. 2D Subsection 1 and one (1) point from <br />each of Section 7.2D Subsection 2 and Subsection 3. <br />No substitutions shall apply. <br /> <br />26 <br />
